Todays tea is this spicy call out meme(图1)

Did someone say tea party? Because this meme calls out everything and anything problematic on the internet.

The "today's tea" meme is essentially the bunny sign meme, repackaged in a piping hot ASCII teacup.

From hot takes on the capitalist hell we live in to personally calling you out for neglecting your health, the meme reminds you that everyone on the internet has an opinion.

Some even went meta.

Invite your friends and start the kettle — we are about to SPILL some tea.

The internet made sooooo many jokes about Trumps fake news trophy tweet

    (图1)

Perhaps the biggest bummer about Twitter's new 280-character limit is that it allows the current president to compose tweets like this one:

On Monday morning, President Donald Trump hit Twitter to suggest a "FAKE NEWS TROPHY" for whichever news network he deems produces "the most dishonest, corrupt" coverage of his presidency. As usual, Fox was excluded from Trump's media rage.

In the same tweet, Trump referred to himself as the American people's favorite president with a parenthetical "(me)." According the most recent Gallup(opens in a new tab) poll, the self-described "favorite" president's approval rating currently sits at 37 percent.

Naturally the internet jumped all over Trump's first tweet of the day. Some even have a solid suggestion for Trump's proposed "FAKE NEWS TROPHY":

Project Entrepreneur expands accelerator program to help more women entrepreneurs build scalable companies

    (图1)

Since launching in 2015, Project Entrepreneur(opens in a new tab) — a media partner of Mashable — has trained more than 1,200 aspiring entrepreneurs representing 131 U.S. cities. Its annual venture competition has yielded an alumnae community of nearly 400 women entrepreneurs, with the 2016 finalists reporting $10+ million raised in seed and pre-seed funding.

Now entering its third year, Project Entrepreneur (PE) — an initiative from the Rent the Runway Foundation and UBS Elevating Entrepreneurs(opens in a new tab) — is expanding the number of winning companies in the accelerator from three to five.

“We are so excited to continue working with UBS in providing women with the tools they need to create high-growth companies, and see their visions through,” said Jennifer Hyman, CEO and Co-Founder of Rent the Runway. “Past participants in our accelerator continue to inspire us with their incredible progress, including closing rounds of funding. We are eager to provide the next class of talented female founders with the tools and support they need to scale, and to see the disruption their companies bring to various different industries.”

PE's annual venture competition is open to female founders who are in the prototype or beta stages, have their first paying customers, or are generating revenue. The top 200 applicants will be invited to attend the PE Intensive in New York City on April 13-14, 2018, a free two-day event comprised of in-depth workshops, expert speakers and a pitch competition. The five winning founders will each receive a $10,000 grant, a spot in the five-week accelerator program at Rent the Runway’s New York office and mentorship and engagement with UBS executives, entrepreneurs, and investors. Founders interested can apply online(opens in a new tab); but don’t wait, as the deadline is December 1st!

Last year’s winning companies included: New York-based LOLI Beauty(opens in a new tab), the first BIY (Blend It Yourself) clean and green beauty brand; Scottsdale-based The Touchpoint Solution(opens in a new tab), a neuroscience wearable that alleviates stress by altering the body’s stress response in as little as 30 seconds; and San Francisco-based Lace & Liberty(opens in a new tab), merging direct-to-consumer convenience with luxury bespoke bridalwear. Two additional New York-based companies were hosted by The Knot/XO Group Co-Founder Carley Roney and designer Rebecca Minkoff: Repeat Roses(opens in a new tab), a sustainable floral waste removal business that gives back to people and planet, and Reboundwear(opens in a new tab), athleisure wear with a purpose, respectively.

    (图2)

“The caliber of companies we're seeing through Project Entrepreneur further validates what we've always believed — that there is an incredible population of talented female founders in cities and towns across the country,” said Lori Feinsilver, UBS Head of Community Affairs & Corporate Responsibility, Americas. “Being able to reach these women and provide them with access to resources and support that will help fuel their growth gives us confidence that we can indeed level the playing field.”

  • Two people trying to run the same government agency makes for a really awkward first day

Two people trying to run the same government agency makes for a really awkward first day

    (图1)

Revolutionaries, take note -- if you're planning a government takeover, please use high quality breakfast pastries.

That's a lesson that White House Budget Director Mick Mulvaney(opens in a new tab) apparently hadn't learned when he stepped into the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau today. He was there to take on an additional job as the agency's director.

The only problem? The agency's acting director, Leandra English, refused to cede it to him, in the workplace drama of the decade.

As a Trump appointee, Mulvaney wasn't exactly welcomed at at the job, so he brought crappy Dunkin' Donuts as a way to "ease" himself into an agency he's expected to destroy.

SEE ALSO: Sorry, Cards Against Humanity can't stop Trump's wall

On Friday, Director Richard Cordray(opens in a new tab) stepped down, leaving English to serve as acting director. Last night, English filed a lawsuit claiming that she is the "rightful acting director" of the agency. English has asked the court to impose a temporary restraining order to prevent Trump from appointing anyone, arguing that she is entitled to her position under the Dodd Frank Wall Street Reform Law(opens in a new tab).

None of that stopped Mulvaney. On Monday, the Budget Director stepped into the CFPB, ready to take on his new job.

This is how English responded in an email sent to 1,600 staff.

"I hope that everyone had a great Thanksgiving. With Thanksgiving in mind, I wanted to take a moment to share my gratitude to all of you for your service,” English said(opens in a new tab), signing the note with her title, "Acting Director."

And that, my friends, is what we call a death drop.

Via Giphy(opens in a new tab)

    Here's how Mulvaney responded:

“Please disregard any instructions you receive from Ms. English in her presumed capacity as acting director.” Mulvaney said(opens in a new tab). “I apologize for this being the very first thing you hear from me. However, under the circumstances I suppose it is necessary. If you’re at 1700 G Street today, please stop by the fourth floor to say hello and grab a doughnut.”

If Mulvaney, a budget hawk, thinks he can sway members of an agency whose jobs he's poised to eliminate with Dunkin' Donuts, he's out of his mind. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau(opens in a new tab) was explicitly designed to protect consumers from banks and credit card companies. Mulvaney once famously called the agency "sad" and "sick." He is not, as members of the agency likely know, their friend.

And dude, if you're going to try and win your staff over with breakfast pastries, at least go for something slightly more delicious than Dunkin'. Some suggestions:

    • Krispy Kreme

    • (图2)

      Entenmann's Coffee Cake

    • Savory bacon cheddar scones

    • Literally anything else

The case is currently being decided. In the meantime, here's Twitter's majority opinion on the issue:

Chef José Andrés, the man who single-handedly served 3 million meals to Puerto Rico post Hurricane Maria, had the best response of them all.

    Case closed.

A tourist was bitten on the leg by a crocodile on at Cape Tribulation in Queensland, Australia on Monday night, while standing on a creek bank close to the waters edge.

A Queensland Department of Environment and Heritage Protection (EHP) spokesperson said in a statement the crocodile was estimated to be 2 to 2.5 metres (78 to 98 inches) long.

A video posted on the Facebook page of Ally Bullifent shows the crocodile attack, which comes out of nowhere. It'll be sure to give you a shock.

    (图2)

The EHP said it would carry out a site assessment of the area on Tuesday, and will possibly target the crocodile "for removal" as it has displayed dangerous behaviour in a designated area. This means it'll be moved to a crocodile farm or a zoo, according to the Cairns Post(opens in a new tab).

For authorities, it also serves as a reminder about staying safe in areas where crocodiles might be around. Earlier this year, an 18-year-old boy was attacked by a crocodile while reportedly trying to impress a girl.

So it's understandable why a town crier -- with his elaborate, red and gold robed dress and tricorn hat -- attracted people's attention on social media when he was depicted in an ABC News video as he announces the news of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's engagement outside of Buckingham Palace:

"Oyez, oyez, oyz!" He yells in the video. "Buckingham Palace is proud to announce the engagement of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. God save the Queen!"

It can't get any more British than this.

Business Insider posted a similar video, calling him "the Royal Town Crier":

However, it turns out the eccentric guy is not officially appointed by the Queen, nor is he a real town crier. His real name is Tony Appleton, from Romford, east London, and he's been making royal announcements for years, bell and scroll on hand.

From the moment she declared that the director of the FBI had "no legitimacy" and then death dropped in front of a gaggle of shellshocked reporters, 79-year-old Auntie Maxine has had our blood loyalty. Every floor she walked on in 2017, whether it was in the Capitol or at the MTV Movie Awards, became her stage and ultimately, a property in her empire.

More so than any other "deplorable" president with a Ziploc bag of fleas for a brain, Maxine Waters was the de facto leader of the free world/MSNBC in 2017.

    4. When she delivered MTV's first ever "Best Fight Against the System" award, did a plié, and got a standing ovation.

Cat hiking videos are the wholesome escape you need in your life

This post is part of Hard Refresh, a soothing weekly column where we try to cleanse your brain of whatever terrible thing you just witnessed on Twitter.

Things you can reasonably expect to see on a hike: trees; rocks; streams. Thing you might not expect to see on a hike: A cat on a leash walking with its owner.

Turns out that hiking cats are more common than you might think. These adventurous felines can be found on YouTube and Instagram, where they explore rough mountain terrain, rocky beaches, and green pastures.

SEE ALSO: What happens when an animal influencer dies?

There's something so delightful about watching these pets explore new terrain with such curiosity.

While there are lots of videos of hiking cats online, I recommend you check out some of these seasoned feline hikers first.

There's Cezar, the traveling cat who's been to France, El Salvador, and Malta. Then there's Honey Bee(opens in a new tab), the blind cat who loves to spend time outdoors. And finally, there's Paul the cat, whose high-altitude hiking videos will put your own hiking abilities to shame.

While most cats are naturally pretty curious, not every cat is built to explore the outside world, according to the Adventure Cats blog(opens in a new tab). Felines that possess a playful demeanor and an interest in the outside world -- and are willing to wear a harness — might make solid hikers.

For cat owners intrigued by the idea of bringing their pets on long hikes (or even just outside for a quick walk,) Adventure Cats has a pretty comprehensive guide(opens in a new tab) to getting your pet more comfortable with the great outdoors.

But if you're just looking for 15 minutes of nature footage and cute cats, watch a video or two and then daydream of one day climbing a mountain with Whiskers by your side.

  • Why arent you spying on your dog?

    (图1)

Why arent you spying on your dog?

Forget Shark Week, it’s Bark Week on Mashable. Join us as we celebrate all the good dogs, which we humans do not deserve.

Ever kissed your faithful pooch goodbye before a long day at the office and wondered what the heck he's planning on doing all day?

Will he spend hours gazing out the window and mournfully awaiting your return? Maybe he knows how to turn on the television and will finish binging Queer Eye. Or perhaps he'll take advantage of your absence and do all the things he knows deep down he's not supposed to — like sniff around your closet or hop up on the table.

If you're curious about what your furry friends are up to when you're gone, there's only one way to find out: Start spying on your pets.

SEE ALSO: Puppy gets caught eating paper, decides to leave no witnesses

Now the word "spying" sounds pretty hardcore. To clarify, we're not suggesting you hire a private investigator or even spend your lunch break going back home to check on your pet.

Our version of spying is much easier, and pretty entertaining, if we do say so ourselves. Simply invest in a pet monitoring camera so you can tune in via phone or computer from miles away to see how your dog's doing when your watchful eye isn't physically in the house.

Alone time is great, and even animals need their privacy, but installing a security camera to check in on your pet has some serious benefits. Let's examine a few of the most important, shall we?

    1. You can see when they're misbehaving

The first perk of a pet cam, of course, is that it will allow you to catch any wrongdoings that might take place in your absence.

Cameras will give you the opportunity to see if your pooch is really the Good Boy you think or if it's all an act. And if you have multiple pets it's very helpful when it comes to solving mysteries like who's to blame for all the shoe munching?

For instance, a camera helped Twitter user @sofreakingsuper(opens in a new tab) learn that her dog's the one breaking rules and chewing up her paint brushes while she's at work, while her cat just naps all day. Gotta love teens.

Sometimes you'll learn your pet's using the wrong bed, climbing on furniture, eating people food, and then dramatically falling off the furniture, which is far from ideal.

And pet cameras aren't just for home use. If you leave your furry friend at a kennel or day care while you're traveling for a few days, be sure to check if there's a video feed you could tune in to from afar.

That's what Mashable Culture Writer Marcus Gilmer did when he was visiting our New York office, and he wound up discovering his precious pup Charlie was chillin' in timeout 470 miles away.

Warning: In select cases like theses pet cameras do have the potential to break your heart. :(

    2. You can capture pure content gold

Pet monitoring cameras record a ton of joyful, hilarious, and impressive "you have to see it to believe it" moments, too, though.

Allow Mashable editor Adam Rosenberg, who temporarily placed his dog camera in the bathroom to capture his talented dog Fozzie's weird but intriguing AF little toilet-adjacent contortions, to prove us right.

And while they sometimes like to hang out near toilet bowls, your pets are smart, so on occasion they do notice they're being watched. If we're being honest, those moments always thoroughly entertaining to witness.

Good job, pups — you caught your humans being kind of creepy!

    3. You can hang out with your pets all day

Perhaps one of the ultimate pet cam perks is that it allows you to hang out with your pets ALL THE TIME.

When you're on a No Pets Allowed trip and feeling guilty about leaving them behind, check the cam. When you're having a bad day and need some cheering up, check the cam. And when you're bored at work, wishing your pets were by your side to make the day more bearable, pull up the camera's feed on your computer screen. It'll almost feel like you're hanging out all day!

Mashable's Executive Editor Annie Colbert, who is a few steps and a pencil skirt away from turning into Angela Martin, the uptight cat lady from The Office, does it all the time. (Annie, if you're reading this, we love watching your cat cam and you are much nicer than Angela).

    4. Peace of mind

Maybe you feel your pets totally have things under control when you step out and the thought of investing in a security type camera has never even crossed your mind, or perhaps you've been on the fence about dropping some dollars on even more technology. But whatever your stance is, there's no doubt a pet camera will, at the very least, give you peace of mind.

Cameras give you the convenience of checking on your pet whenever, wherever. And sure, your pet might just wind up sleeping all day or walking around the house, but wouldn't you rather know they're safe then have to keep wondering?

And though their time alone in the house might be totally uneventful, seeing pets simply exist and behave when no one watching is extremely heartwarming. JUST LOOK AT ALL THESE GOOD DOGS! 😭😭😭 They deserve extra treats when their owners return home.

    Pet spying 101

If you're so convinced by this persuasive argument for spying on your pets that you're now looking for the perfect pet cam, you're in luck!

There are a lot of great cameras made with pets in mind, and even some interactive cameras, like Petcube and Furbo, that allow you to talk to, play with, or dispense treats to your pets while you're gone at the push of a button.

Though, as several camera owners have learned, the extra high-tech ones may give your pet the false impression you're standing outside the door or inspire them to do nothing other than sit in front of the device all day eagerly awaiting treats.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the camera doesn't necessarily have to be pet specific, which means you can use most any household security camera with a feed, like Google's Nest devices.

    What's the verdict?

Pet monitoring cameras seem great, right? I mean, as far as I can see, the only downside to installing one could be that you wind up spending too much time checking in on your furry friends.

You know when new parents go out for the first time and politely keep excusing themselves to call the babysitter 24,659,742 times to see if their baby is lost without them or like still blinking at a normal rate? Yeah, don't use the pet camera for that.

We regret to inform you that your pet is probably getting along just fine without you. The camera is just a helpful way to make them feel a little closer despite the distance between you.

So if you've ever been the least bit curious about your pet's behavior or wellbeing when you're separated, why not take the plunge and start spying? At the very least, you'll have a greater peace of mind knowing you can digitally look out for your pet, and maybe if you're really lucky, your camera will capture an LOL-worthy moment.

That's the burger, served double-double with the option of animal style (mustard fried onto the patty, pickles, grilled onions, and extra thousand island "spread.") or the bun-less protein style. Crisps replace fries, which is fair considering how notably *meh* the french fries are.

Despite the long wait for these pop-ups, locals lined up for a slice of California, with the pop-up open only between 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.

For those who missed out, In-N-Out is undeniably great for a chain burger, but Melbourne is already home to a bundle of excellent burger spots (8-Bit, Royal Stacks, Huxtaburger, et al.)

New Yorkers were similarly disappointed last October(opens in a new tab) when a fake In-N-Out pop-up made the rounds on social media. Everyone just wants a burger.

OKCupid adds Black Lives Matter badge and profile questions about racial inequality

On Thursday, OKCupid announced that it's rolling out a #BlackLivesMatter(Opens in a new tab) badge in a dozen countries. Users can obtain the badge by answering yes to the question, "Do you want to support the #BlackLivesMatter movement by adding a badge to your profile?"

    (图1)

Since badges won't actually do anything to solve racism, OKCupid has also donated $50,000 to the ACLU, Black Girls Code, Fair Fight Action and the NAACP. The app will also donate a million dollars in advertising space to black civil rights organizations.

In addition to the badge, OKCupid has added matching questions related to racial injustice and inequality. Users can answer whether they protest; whether it's okay to silently support racial equality; how they plan on addressing racial inequality (say by donating or protesting); and whether they find it important that their date supports racial equality.

In the past week, over 100,000 users have responded to the new questions. The majority said it's not okay to silently support equality, according to OKCupid's blog post. Seventy percent are protesting for racial equality.

This isn't the first time OKCupid has created badges and questions around social justice. They did so with supporting Planned Parenthood(Opens in a new tab) and marriage equality as well(Opens in a new tab). While the badge could be seen by some as virtual signaling, the questions do allow users to dig deeper into a potential match's commitment to racial equality — which is a step in the right direction.

  • Who is Vecna in Stranger Things and why is the internet talking about them?

Who is Vecna in Stranger Things and why is the internet talking about them?

The first seven episodes of Stranger Things Season 4 were released on Netflix on Friday (May 27), and the internet is abuzz with hot takes, memes, and predictions about the final two episodes that are scheduled to drop in July. That means that for the next few weeks, prepare to see the name "Vecna" all over your social media feeds.

    (图1)

With tens of thousands of tweets, Vecna is already the breakout star of the season. So, who is Vecna? And why is the internet so obsessed with it? Let's talk about it.

    Mild Spoilers ahead.

    Who is Vecna?

Vecna is to Stranger Things 4 what the Demogorgon was to Season 1. In other words, he's the big, scary monster wreaking havoc on Hawkins.

Vecna lives in the Upside Down and preys on people's past traumas and guilt. The monster curses its victims, making them relive their trauma in progressively more gruesome ways until it violently kills them. (And we mean, like, really violently.) Vecna slaughters its targets by levitating them in the air, breaking all their bones, and making their eyes and skull implode. And like its predecessors (the Demogorgon, the Mind Flayer), Vecna is named by the Party after a Dungeons & Dragons character.

In the final episode of Stranger Things 4 Volume 1, it's revealed that Vecna isn't native to the Upside Down, but was banished there by Eleven after he gruesomely massacred the Hawkins National Lab. Vecna was the original child studied by Dr. Brenner and the son of Victor Creel. He's the infamous Number One, but had his powers blocked and worked as an aide in the Hawkins National Lab. He befriended Eleven at the lab and not knowing Vecna was evil, Eleven restored his powers resulting in the massacre and his expulsion to the Upside Down.

Before coming to the Hawkins National Lab, Venca had a classic villain origin story — he became obsessed with black widows, tortured his family, and brutally killed his mother and sister pinning it on his father.

One/Vecna had his powers blocked and was working as an aide at Hawkins National Lab where he befriended Eleven. Not knowing that One was evil, Eleven restored his powers which he used to gruesomely massacre the entire lab. Eleven banished One/Vecna to the Upside Down where he's been attacking the Hawkins teens from.

Vecna notably targets Max (Sadie Sink), and the Hawkins gang discovers that the only way for her to avoid being killed by his curse is to play Max her favorite song, which happens to be "Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)" by Kate Bush. As a result of its inclusion in the show, the 1985 track has skyrocketed in popularity and currently sits at No. 2 on Spotify's top 50 U.S. chart(Opens in a new tab) and No. 4 on its top 200 global chart.(Opens in a new tab)

Max's obsession with "Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)" sparked a larger conversation on social media about discovering music through a television show. Some gatekeepers stuck up their nose at people finding the track through Stranger Things, while others celebrated the iconic song beguiling a new generation.

While the ending of Episode 4 — in which Max runs from Vecna in the Upside Down trying to reach a portal to the real world while listening to "Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)" — is the standout scene of the season, it hasn't been Vecna's only viral moment. Vecna's weakness unsurprisingly became an opportunity for viewers to share what song would save their life.

    "What's your Vecna song?"

"What's your Vecna song?" is now the pop-culture-savvy way to ask for someone's favorite song.

    What song would save you?

  • NASAs X-Plane is designed to fly at supersonic speeds without the sonic boom

    (图1)

NASAs X-Plane is designed to fly at supersonic speeds without the sonic boom

NASA wants to prove that it can fly a plane faster than the speed of sound without blasting American neighborhoods below with sonic booms.

Previously, commercial supersonic travel had been limited to the Atlantic Ocean, where people wouldn't be jarred awake by planes traveling overhead at more than 760 miles per hour. But with an innovative plane design that might subtly morph in the air to tame sound waves, NASA hopes to build a quieter supersonic plane that would revolutionize travel.

Our cross-country flight times would be cut in half. NASA calls it the X-Plane, and the agency just awarded the aerospace and defense company Lockheed Martin the $247.5 million contract to build the first one.

SEE ALSO: Finding alien life won't cause chaos and panic, according to scientists

At a news conference Tuesday morning, NASA said that this first X-Plane is a data-collecting experiment expected to take flight in 2021.

The plane will be 94-feet-long, smaller than today's medium-sized commercial aircraft, like the popular Boeing 737. It will typically cruise around speeds of 1.4 Mach, which is approximately 940 mph when traveling at 55,000 feet, according to a NASA spokesperson.

Today's commercial airliners typically travel between 550 and 590 miles per hour(opens in a new tab), far short of the 767 mph speed of sound.

NASA aeronautics engineers underscored that this plane isn't a prototype for a defense mission or a private jet -- but an experimental plane intended to fly over American communities and see if it is quiet enough to be a real, usable technology.

NASA's goal is to not produce a sonic boom at all, but something that sounds more like a soft thud.

"I’m trying not to use the word sonic boom," said Peter Coen, project manager for NASA’s Commercial Supersonics Technology Project. "I’m trying to ban that from everyone’s vocabulary."

Getting a plane to produce a thud, as opposed to a thunderous blast, broadly means controlling the strength and position of the shock waves produced by the supersonic-speeding plane as it zooms through the air.

This is something Lockheed Martin and NASA flight engineers will spend the next couple years developing, so by the time a sound wave hits the ground -- possibly in a neighborhood near you -- it's weakened to a thump, "not a boom," said Coen.

Lockheed Martin has already designed much of the sleek plane.

If all goes as planned, the experimental plane will make its first flight in 2021. Then, after NASA ensures the plane is safe and passes "acoustic validation tests," the aircraft will begin flying over a variety of U.S. communities in 2023. These flight tests will run through 2025.

"We’ll be flying over medium-sized cities, urban towns, and rural populations," said Ed Waggoner, program director for NASA’s Integrated Aviation Systems Program. "It will be representative of populations that will be exposed to these sounds."

NASA uses cameras with special filters (hydrogen alpha) to capture images of how supersonic planes move through the air and create booms. Credit: NASA

The X-Plane tests will fly over large 50-square-mile areas, giving NASA a diversity of Americans to survey about the low-booms they're hearing -- and if they notice them at all.

Today, civilian supersonic flights over land are banned. But once NASA gets feedback from the public, this information can be used to not just advise plane manufacturers in the U.S. of how to build low-boom planes, but engineers all over the world.

"One thing we hope this data will give the international community is that noise level," said Coen. "If your airplane produces less than X [sound decibels], it’s okay to fly over land."
