Thigh cut-out jeans are a hellish nightmare for anyone with chub rub

The sun is shining, your skin is glowing, and your thighs are...on fire. Yep, the season of "chub rub" is upon us.

Behold, a pair of jeans guaranteed to be the arch-nemesis of anyone whose thighs rub together during those sticky summer months.

SEE ALSO: Butt rip jeans are the latest terrible jeans trend that we definitely never needed

ASOS is selling a pair of jeans with something called a "suspender detail," which essentially means there's two giant holes on each thigh. Somewhat crucially, these holes expose the area of skin prone to chafing, which could make these jeans very uncomfortable.

For those unacquainted, the term "chub rub" refers to thigh chafing which occurs to people of all shapes and sizes due to increased heat and sweating.

For those of us who spend our summers trying to avoid this particularly unpleasant aspect of warm weather, these jeans are basically our worst nightmare.

The jeans will set you back(opens in a new tab) £17.50 ($23) from ASOS.

No thank you!

The internet made sooooo many jokes about Trumps fake news trophy tweet

Perhaps the biggest bummer about Twitter's new 280-character limit is that it allows the current president to compose tweets like this one:

On Monday morning, President Donald Trump hit Twitter to suggest a "FAKE NEWS TROPHY" for whichever news network he deems produces "the most dishonest, corrupt" coverage of his presidency. As usual, Fox was excluded from Trump's media rage.

In the same tweet, Trump referred to himself as the American people's favorite president with a parenthetical "(me)." According the most recent Gallup(opens in a new tab) poll, the self-described "favorite" president's approval rating currently sits at 37 percent.

Naturally the internet jumped all over Trump's first tweet of the day. Some even have a solid suggestion for Trump's proposed "FAKE NEWS TROPHY":

Project Entrepreneur expands accelerator program to help more women entrepreneurs build scalable companies

    (图1)

Since launching in 2015, Project Entrepreneur(opens in a new tab) — a media partner of Mashable — has trained more than 1,200 aspiring entrepreneurs representing 131 U.S. cities. Its annual venture competition has yielded an alumnae community of nearly 400 women entrepreneurs, with the 2016 finalists reporting $10+ million raised in seed and pre-seed funding.

Now entering its third year, Project Entrepreneur (PE) — an initiative from the Rent the Runway Foundation and UBS Elevating Entrepreneurs(opens in a new tab) — is expanding the number of winning companies in the accelerator from three to five.

“We are so excited to continue working with UBS in providing women with the tools they need to create high-growth companies, and see their visions through,” said Jennifer Hyman, CEO and Co-Founder of Rent the Runway. “Past participants in our accelerator continue to inspire us with their incredible progress, including closing rounds of funding. We are eager to provide the next class of talented female founders with the tools and support they need to scale, and to see the disruption their companies bring to various different industries.”

PE's annual venture competition is open to female founders who are in the prototype or beta stages, have their first paying customers, or are generating revenue. The top 200 applicants will be invited to attend the PE Intensive in New York City on April 13-14, 2018, a free two-day event comprised of in-depth workshops, expert speakers and a pitch competition. The five winning founders will each receive a $10,000 grant, a spot in the five-week accelerator program at Rent the Runway’s New York office and mentorship and engagement with UBS executives, entrepreneurs, and investors. Founders interested can apply online(opens in a new tab); but don’t wait, as the deadline is December 1st!

Last year’s winning companies included: New York-based LOLI Beauty(opens in a new tab), the first BIY (Blend It Yourself) clean and green beauty brand; Scottsdale-based The Touchpoint Solution(opens in a new tab), a neuroscience wearable that alleviates stress by altering the body’s stress response in as little as 30 seconds; and San Francisco-based Lace & Liberty(opens in a new tab), merging direct-to-consumer convenience with luxury bespoke bridalwear. Two additional New York-based companies were hosted by The Knot/XO Group Co-Founder Carley Roney and designer Rebecca Minkoff: Repeat Roses(opens in a new tab), a sustainable floral waste removal business that gives back to people and planet, and Reboundwear(opens in a new tab), athleisure wear with a purpose, respectively.

    (图2)

“The caliber of companies we're seeing through Project Entrepreneur further validates what we've always believed — that there is an incredible population of talented female founders in cities and towns across the country,” said Lori Feinsilver, UBS Head of Community Affairs & Corporate Responsibility, Americas. “Being able to reach these women and provide them with access to resources and support that will help fuel their growth gives us confidence that we can indeed level the playing field.”

  • Two people trying to run the same government agency makes for a really awkward first day

Two people trying to run the same government agency makes for a really awkward first day

    (图1)

Revolutionaries, take note -- if you're planning a government takeover, please use high quality breakfast pastries.

That's a lesson that White House Budget Director Mick Mulvaney(opens in a new tab) apparently hadn't learned when he stepped into the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau today. He was there to take on an additional job as the agency's director.

The only problem? The agency's acting director, Leandra English, refused to cede it to him, in the workplace drama of the decade.

As a Trump appointee, Mulvaney wasn't exactly welcomed at at the job, so he brought crappy Dunkin' Donuts as a way to "ease" himself into an agency he's expected to destroy.

SEE ALSO: Sorry, Cards Against Humanity can't stop Trump's wall

On Friday, Director Richard Cordray(opens in a new tab) stepped down, leaving English to serve as acting director. Last night, English filed a lawsuit claiming that she is the "rightful acting director" of the agency. English has asked the court to impose a temporary restraining order to prevent Trump from appointing anyone, arguing that she is entitled to her position under the Dodd Frank Wall Street Reform Law(opens in a new tab).

None of that stopped Mulvaney. On Monday, the Budget Director stepped into the CFPB, ready to take on his new job.

This is how English responded in an email sent to 1,600 staff.

"I hope that everyone had a great Thanksgiving. With Thanksgiving in mind, I wanted to take a moment to share my gratitude to all of you for your service,” English said(opens in a new tab), signing the note with her title, "Acting Director."

And that, my friends, is what we call a death drop.

Via Giphy(opens in a new tab)

    Here's how Mulvaney responded:

“Please disregard any instructions you receive from Ms. English in her presumed capacity as acting director.” Mulvaney said(opens in a new tab). “I apologize for this being the very first thing you hear from me. However, under the circumstances I suppose it is necessary. If you’re at 1700 G Street today, please stop by the fourth floor to say hello and grab a doughnut.”

If Mulvaney, a budget hawk, thinks he can sway members of an agency whose jobs he's poised to eliminate with Dunkin' Donuts, he's out of his mind. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau(opens in a new tab) was explicitly designed to protect consumers from banks and credit card companies. Mulvaney once famously called the agency "sad" and "sick." He is not, as members of the agency likely know, their friend.

And dude, if you're going to try and win your staff over with breakfast pastries, at least go for something slightly more delicious than Dunkin'. Some suggestions:

    • Krispy Kreme

    • (图2)

      Entenmann's Coffee Cake

    • Savory bacon cheddar scones

    • Literally anything else

The case is currently being decided. In the meantime, here's Twitter's majority opinion on the issue:

Chef José Andrés, the man who single-handedly served 3 million meals to Puerto Rico post Hurricane Maria, had the best response of them all.

    Case closed.

Welp, this is a close call.

A tourist was bitten on the leg by a crocodile on at Cape Tribulation in Queensland, Australia on Monday night, while standing on a creek bank close to the waters edge.

A Queensland Department of Environment and Heritage Protection (EHP) spokesperson said in a statement the crocodile was estimated to be 2 to 2.5 metres (78 to 98 inches) long.

A video posted on the Facebook page of Ally Bullifent shows the crocodile attack, which comes out of nowhere. It'll be sure to give you a shock.

    (图2)

The EHP said it would carry out a site assessment of the area on Tuesday, and will possibly target the crocodile "for removal" as it has displayed dangerous behaviour in a designated area. This means it'll be moved to a crocodile farm or a zoo, according to the Cairns Post(opens in a new tab).

For authorities, it also serves as a reminder about staying safe in areas where crocodiles might be around. Earlier this year, an 18-year-old boy was attacked by a crocodile while reportedly trying to impress a girl.

So it's understandable why a town crier -- with his elaborate, red and gold robed dress and tricorn hat -- attracted people's attention on social media when he was depicted in an ABC News video as he announces the news of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's engagement outside of Buckingham Palace:

"Oyez, oyez, oyz!" He yells in the video. "Buckingham Palace is proud to announce the engagement of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. God save the Queen!"

It can't get any more British than this.

Business Insider posted a similar video, calling him "the Royal Town Crier":

However, it turns out the eccentric guy is not officially appointed by the Queen, nor is he a real town crier. His real name is Tony Appleton, from Romford, east London, and he's been making royal announcements for years, bell and scroll on hand.

In 2013, he fooled prominent American broadcasters(opens in a new tab) including Rachel Maddow and Anderson Cooper when he announced the birth of Prince William and Kate's firstborn, Prince George, outside St. Mary's Hospital.

"I'm a royalist. I love the royal family," he told (opens in a new tab)AP(opens in a new tab), while acknowledging he had no official royal role. "I came unannounced."

    3. The time she was asked what she would do once she was done impeaching Trump, and she replied: "Impeach Pence."

    4. When she delivered MTV's first ever "Best Fight Against the System" award, did a plié, and got a standing ovation.

The best YouTube videos to watch if you want to make your own face mask

Now that the CDC is recommending(Opens in a new tab) we all wear cloth face masks in public, you may be wondering how exactly you can use what you have on hand to get out on public and keep others safe.

    (图1)

As the coronavirus pandemic continues, people are uploading helpful videos on YouTube to show everyone how to make their own masks at home. Whether you're showing COVID-19 symptoms or not, you could be infected with the virus and be spreading it to others without knowing. That's where the masks come in. Covering your face can help slow the spread of the virus by protecting people around you from breathing in your germs.

While you can still buy masks online, it's also quite easy to craft your own basic version. We've compiled the best videos to help you make a mask at home and slow the spread of this deadly virus.

    Put your bandanas to use

This video shows you how to make a mask with just a bandana and two hair ties. By folding up the bandana properly, you can make a face covering that fits snuggly over your mouth and nose and keep it up with two hair ties that wrap around your ears.

    The CDC-approved version

The CDC's video, starring U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams, takes a similar approach but shows how you can use a towel or part of a T-shirt with two rubber bands to make a competent face mask. It takes under a minute to achieve.

    A more advanced mask

This tutorial from JOANN Fabric and Craft is a much more involved process and requires some materials that many people don't have readily available in their homes, but it sure makes a nice-looking mask if you can find everything you need. Their process involves elastic straps, ironing, and some light sewing to make a comfortable face covering.

    The most comfortable mask

If you're really feeling creative and have the right materials, this tutorial will show you how to create a fitted face mask with a printable pattern. If you have a sewing machine, plenty of materials (including some wire), and lots of time, this will probably give you the most comfortable face mask possible from home.

    Play it safe

No matter which option you choose, keep in mind that the masks you can make at home are not on the same level as medical-grade surgical masks or N-95 respirators. But cloth masks will help you to not spread your germs around to other people in public places. By making a mask at home instead of buying a medical mask, you'll free up those more effective masks for medical professionals who are putting their own health at risk to help people who are most affected by the coronavirus.

And just because you have a mask doesn't mean you don't have to worry about social distancing. For everyone's safety, stay home whenever possible and make sure you maintain a six-foot distance from people you see out in the world.

And despite the late start and rough morning, Gerard still won a gold medal, the first for a U.S. team at this year's Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. His three snowboarding runs won a combined score of 87.16 out of 100, placing him first over Canada's silver medal winner, Max Parrot.

To top it off, Gerard had the best response to finding out he won. When the results were announced, his victorious "holy fuck!" got into NBC's live feed and was broadcasted nationwide.

Which pretty much sums up all of our reactions, since Gerard is the youngest American man to win a gold medal in 90 years(opens in a new tab) -- some compare his killer snowboarding skills to Shaun White's. He also didn't realize that winning was his dream until pretty recently. In fact, he's barely followed the Winter Olympics.

Congressman complains that Googles CEO should fix his dads Gmail spam filter

Gifted one-on-one time with four of the most powerful tech executives in the world, Republican Congressman Greg Steube of Florida decided to grill Google CEO Sundar Pichai about Gmail's spam folders.

    (图1)

We've all had issues with spam folders, but Steube suggested to Pichai that his campaign emails getting sent to spam was part of a nefarious anti-conservative plot.

Pichai and three other major tech CEOs —Amazon's Jeff Bezos, Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg, and Apple's Tim Cook — testified before the House Judiciary subcommittee on antitrust, commercial, and administrative law on Wednesday.

After first complaining(Opens in a new tab) about not being able to Google the far-right website Gateway Pundit, Steube spent much of his allotted five minutes on Gmail's spam folder.

Steube claimed that when he transitioned from state politics to Congress, suddenly people couldn't get his campaign emails.

"My parents, who have a Gmail account, aren't getting my campaign emails," he told Pichai. "My supporters, just last week, one of my supporters called me and said, 'Hey, I just want you to know this, that my Gmail account suddenly is taking your campaign emails that I've received for almost 10 years and suddenly they're going to spam and junk folders."

Not taking a moment to actually ask a question, Steube quickly pivoted from troubleshooting his parents' email to alleging a plot against conservatives.

"This is — appears — to only be happening to conservative Republicans," Steube said. "I don't see anything in the news, or anything in the press, or other members on the other side of the aisle talking about their campaign emails getting thrown into junk folders in Gmail. So my question is: Why is this only happening to Republicans?"

Pichai, for his part, calmly shot down the idea that there was a conspiracy against Republican emails.

"We are focused on what users want and users have indicated they want us to organize personal emails — emails they receive from friends and family — separately," the Google CEO said. "All we have done is, we have a tabbed organization, and the primary tab has email from friends and family, and the secondary tab has other notifications."

Steube, seemingly not understanding that perhaps his campaign email was pushed to a different tab because it wasn't from a personal account, questioned why his own father wouldn't get a campaign email if family messages go to the primary tab.

"Well, it was my father who was not receiving now my campaign emails. So clearly that familial thing that you're talking about didn't apply to my emails," Steube said.

Pichai responded by explaining that Gmail's systems likely had no way of knowing his father was related to the candidate in a campaign email.

The Markup actually investigated how Gmail sorts political messages(Opens in a new tab) in February. Its review found that just 11 percent landed on the primary tab, while half went to "promotions," and about 40 percent went to "spam."

"We found that Gmail often puts political email into the Promotions folder, which it says is for marketing," The Markup reporter Adrianne Jeffries wrote on Twitter. "But there was no partisan pattern."

For what it's worth, the representative who spoke after Steube, Florida Democrat Val Demings, noted Republicans definitely weren't alone in their spam folder woes.

"Just for the record, I'm a Democrat from Florida, and I've heard complaints about my emails going into spam as well," Demings said.

Its a good day, Robin: Soccer stars, Biden, Clinton celebrate womens equal pay win

After four World Cup wins and millions of dollars in lost wages, U.S. women soccer players are finally scoring equal pay.

    (图1)

Tuesday, the U.S. Women's National Team (USWNT) and the U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) announced that they had reached a settlement in the team's equal pay class action lawsuit. President Biden was among the many politicians, advocates, celebrities, and, of course, soccer stars who cheered the settlement on social media.

Filed in 2019 with superstars like Megan Rapinoe leading the charge, the suit alleged that women were getting paid less than their counterparts on the men's soccer team. The settlement allots $22 million to the players in the lawsuit, plus $2 million to go toward a fund for promoting women's and girl's soccer that the players can apply to use.

The team originally wanted $67 million in back pay. But the settlement also comes with the promise that pay for future USWNT players will be equal with men's teams.

Rapinoe, Alex Morgan, and new USSF president Cindy Cone (who succeeded the former president, who oversaw many of the years of pay disparity) shared the good news on Good Morning America. Rapinoe showed some love for host Robin Roberts as both shared in the joy.

"It's a good day, Robin," Rapinoe said.

High-profile supporters of the team and the equal pay movement also celebrated on social media. That included truly goals-worth interactions between fellow icons Rapinoe, Hillary Clinton, and Sen. Elizabeth Warren.

While the settlement is certainly momentous, the USSF is only one part of the equal pay equation. Much of the disparity also comes from the international soccer organization FIFA, which awards prize money to players in World Cup tournaments. The USSF says FIFA awards less money to women than to men, which is part of the reason for the gender gap. Rapinoe told ESPN(Opens in a new tab) that, going forward, the USWNT and the USSF can lobby FIFA to right this wrong together.

There is still work to be done with FIFA, and the women's player's union and the USSF still have to finalize a collective bargaining agreement. But players past and present took a moment Tuesday to cheer on the settlement.

Celebrities and fellow athletes, including Billie Jean King, gave props to the team, too.

Alexis Ohanian, husband of Serena Williams, Reddit founder, and the lead founding investor in the new women's Los Angeles soccer team, sent one up with a well-chosen gif.

We couldn't have said it better ourselves.

United Airlines just made booking easier for trans and non-binary customers

Something as simple as booking a flight can be painful if you identify as trans.

On Tuesday, United Airlines announced that they would be changing their booking options(Opens in a new tab) to be more trans-inclusive. Instead of forcing their customers to choose between male or female as gender options when booking, customers can now also select U (undisclosed) or X (unspecified), corresponding with whatever it says on their identification. Customers can also select "Mx." in lieu of Ms., Mrs., or Mr. when booking and in their customer profiles.

"United is determined to lead the industry in LGBT inclusivity, and we are so proud to be the first U.S. airline to offer these inclusive booking options for our customers," United's Chief Customer Officer Toby Enqvist said in a press release(Opens in a new tab).

United partnered with the Trevor Project(Opens in a new tab), a nonprofit that provides suicide prevention and crisis intervention services to LGBTQ individuals, as well as the Human Rights Campaign(Opens in a new tab), one of the largest LGTBQ nonprofits in the country, to devise the program. Company employees also learned about preferred pronouns and how to create a more trans-inclusive workplace.

United Airlines' shift comes after a series of embarrassing incidents for the company, including a customer who was dragged off(Opens in a new tab) an airplane to make room for an employee who wanted to fly and a dog who was killed(Opens in a new tab) after a flight attendant stuffed his carrier into an overhead bin.

This latest move from United is a small step forward in an industry that still has so far to go.

People are apparently putting garlic inside their vaginas. Heres why you definitely shouldnt.

    (图1)

Of all the things to put inside your vagina, garlic seems like it'd be pretty low down on the list of, uuuh, desirable objects.

Well, apparently that sentence is a complete lie. Because people are shoving cloves of the stuff inside their vaginas. And, according to Dr Jennifer Gunter, a gynaecologist and New York Times columnist, this is a thing you should never, ever, ever do.

SEE ALSO: Women are naming their vaginas after the last film they watched

In a particularly arresting thread, Gunter explained the myriad reasons why garlic is not your vagina's friend.

Gunter explained that garlic contains something called allicin, a compound that laboratories have found(Opens in a new tab) has anti-fungal properties.

    (图2)

But, "vaginal garlic aficionados," as Gunter calls them, advocate putting cloves of garlic inside one's vagina. In order for allicin to be released, though, Gunter says "garlic has to be cut or crushed."

But there's also another cause for concern: bacteria from the soil the garlic is grown in. That bacteria could, as Gunter points out, be harmful to the body. So, if you already have a yeast infection, that soil bacteria could cause a further infection. Nasty.

Gunter added that there's also a concern about something called "biofilms," which Live Science defines(Opens in a new tab) as "a collective of one or more types of micro-organisms that can grow on many different surfaces."

Gunter is not alone in urging people to steer clear of putting garlic into their vag. Mark Yudin, professor of obstetrics and gynaecology at the University of Toronto, told(Opens in a new tab) Vice that patients have come to him saying that they're self-treating with garlic.

"I have patients that have come to me with histories of infections, saying 'I'm putting garlic; I'm putting yogurt,' because they read online that that might help," said Yudin. "And that's not a good idea. Don't put things into your vagina."

That garlic's probably better off going into a marinara sauce, if we're being completely honest.

Twitter has channeled its carb-loaded rage into a new meme.

The "St. Louis style" bagel — apparently, a bagel cut into thin slices like a loaf of bread — infuriated Twitter users on Wednesday.

It's a special kind of sad and pathetic.

After the initial anger over the travesty that is sliced bagels passed, "St. Louis style" became a meme. People shared messed-up ways to consume their favorite foods — from delicately sipping coffee through a soaked napkin to feasting on boiled pizza.

The meme also pivoted to the absurd new Hudson Yards development in New York City.

May the legacy of the cursed St. Louis style cuisine live on forever.
