When you're running an Instagram competition, it's important to get your hashtag game on point.

You want something snappy, something catchy -- maybe something with a bit of alliteration. Something that will be memorable.

This was clearly the thought process British baking company Warburtons had recently when they decided to launch a Christmas crumpet competition.

They had their celebrity -- former McFly star Tom Fletcher was on board -- and they had their hashtag: #crumpetcreations(opens in a new tab). They were ready to roll.

There was just one small issue, though.

As you can see from that Instagram post, the competition hashtag has now been changed to #WarburtonsChristmasCrumpets(opens in a new tab).

And there was a very good reason for this.

Yep: the hashtag #crumpetcreations was already very much in use. A member of the furry fandom and owner of the account crumpetcreations(opens in a new tab) had already been using it for quite some time.

For anyone who's never heard of "furries", here's a bit of background:

And here's what a recent glimpse of the #crumpetcreations(opens in a new tab) hashtag looks like:

That's quite the mish-mash. Credit: instagram

This guy, in particular, clearly has little time for crumpets:

In the end, Warburtons made the swift decision to swap to a different hashtag.

"The world of social media is a wonderful and varied place but this shows just how easy it is to get wrong!" a spokesperson told (opens in a new tab)The Independent(opens in a new tab).

"We will be doing a bit more research next time! We've changed the hashtag and the competition is still on #warburtonschristmascrumpets(opens in a new tab)."

The internet made sooooo many jokes about Trumps fake news trophy tweet

    (图1)

Perhaps the biggest bummer about Twitter's new 280-character limit is that it allows the current president to compose tweets like this one:

On Monday morning, President Donald Trump hit Twitter to suggest a "FAKE NEWS TROPHY" for whichever news network he deems produces "the most dishonest, corrupt" coverage of his presidency. As usual, Fox was excluded from Trump's media rage.

In the same tweet, Trump referred to himself as the American people's favorite president with a parenthetical "(me)." According the most recent Gallup(opens in a new tab) poll, the self-described "favorite" president's approval rating currently sits at 37 percent.

Naturally the internet jumped all over Trump's first tweet of the day. Some even have a solid suggestion for Trump's proposed "FAKE NEWS TROPHY":

Project Entrepreneur expands accelerator program to help more women entrepreneurs build scalable companies

    (图1)

Since launching in 2015, Project Entrepreneur(opens in a new tab) — a media partner of Mashable — has trained more than 1,200 aspiring entrepreneurs representing 131 U.S. cities. Its annual venture competition has yielded an alumnae community of nearly 400 women entrepreneurs, with the 2016 finalists reporting $10+ million raised in seed and pre-seed funding.

Now entering its third year, Project Entrepreneur (PE) — an initiative from the Rent the Runway Foundation and UBS Elevating Entrepreneurs(opens in a new tab) — is expanding the number of winning companies in the accelerator from three to five.

“We are so excited to continue working with UBS in providing women with the tools they need to create high-growth companies, and see their visions through,” said Jennifer Hyman, CEO and Co-Founder of Rent the Runway. “Past participants in our accelerator continue to inspire us with their incredible progress, including closing rounds of funding. We are eager to provide the next class of talented female founders with the tools and support they need to scale, and to see the disruption their companies bring to various different industries.”

PE's annual venture competition is open to female founders who are in the prototype or beta stages, have their first paying customers, or are generating revenue. The top 200 applicants will be invited to attend the PE Intensive in New York City on April 13-14, 2018, a free two-day event comprised of in-depth workshops, expert speakers and a pitch competition. The five winning founders will each receive a $10,000 grant, a spot in the five-week accelerator program at Rent the Runway’s New York office and mentorship and engagement with UBS executives, entrepreneurs, and investors. Founders interested can apply online(opens in a new tab); but don’t wait, as the deadline is December 1st!

Last year’s winning companies included: New York-based LOLI Beauty(opens in a new tab), the first BIY (Blend It Yourself) clean and green beauty brand; Scottsdale-based The Touchpoint Solution(opens in a new tab), a neuroscience wearable that alleviates stress by altering the body’s stress response in as little as 30 seconds; and San Francisco-based Lace & Liberty(opens in a new tab), merging direct-to-consumer convenience with luxury bespoke bridalwear. Two additional New York-based companies were hosted by The Knot/XO Group Co-Founder Carley Roney and designer Rebecca Minkoff: Repeat Roses(opens in a new tab), a sustainable floral waste removal business that gives back to people and planet, and Reboundwear(opens in a new tab), athleisure wear with a purpose, respectively.

    (图2)

“The caliber of companies we're seeing through Project Entrepreneur further validates what we've always believed — that there is an incredible population of talented female founders in cities and towns across the country,” said Lori Feinsilver, UBS Head of Community Affairs & Corporate Responsibility, Americas. “Being able to reach these women and provide them with access to resources and support that will help fuel their growth gives us confidence that we can indeed level the playing field.”

  • Two people trying to run the same government agency makes for a really awkward first day

Two people trying to run the same government agency makes for a really awkward first day

    (图1)

Revolutionaries, take note -- if you're planning a government takeover, please use high quality breakfast pastries.

That's a lesson that White House Budget Director Mick Mulvaney(opens in a new tab) apparently hadn't learned when he stepped into the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau today. He was there to take on an additional job as the agency's director.

The only problem? The agency's acting director, Leandra English, refused to cede it to him, in the workplace drama of the decade.

As a Trump appointee, Mulvaney wasn't exactly welcomed at at the job, so he brought crappy Dunkin' Donuts as a way to "ease" himself into an agency he's expected to destroy.

SEE ALSO: Sorry, Cards Against Humanity can't stop Trump's wall

On Friday, Director Richard Cordray(opens in a new tab) stepped down, leaving English to serve as acting director. Last night, English filed a lawsuit claiming that she is the "rightful acting director" of the agency. English has asked the court to impose a temporary restraining order to prevent Trump from appointing anyone, arguing that she is entitled to her position under the Dodd Frank Wall Street Reform Law(opens in a new tab).

None of that stopped Mulvaney. On Monday, the Budget Director stepped into the CFPB, ready to take on his new job.

This is how English responded in an email sent to 1,600 staff.

"I hope that everyone had a great Thanksgiving. With Thanksgiving in mind, I wanted to take a moment to share my gratitude to all of you for your service,” English said(opens in a new tab), signing the note with her title, "Acting Director."

And that, my friends, is what we call a death drop.

Via Giphy(opens in a new tab)

    Here's how Mulvaney responded:

“Please disregard any instructions you receive from Ms. English in her presumed capacity as acting director.” Mulvaney said(opens in a new tab). “I apologize for this being the very first thing you hear from me. However, under the circumstances I suppose it is necessary. If you’re at 1700 G Street today, please stop by the fourth floor to say hello and grab a doughnut.”

If Mulvaney, a budget hawk, thinks he can sway members of an agency whose jobs he's poised to eliminate with Dunkin' Donuts, he's out of his mind. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau(opens in a new tab) was explicitly designed to protect consumers from banks and credit card companies. Mulvaney once famously called the agency "sad" and "sick." He is not, as members of the agency likely know, their friend.

And dude, if you're going to try and win your staff over with breakfast pastries, at least go for something slightly more delicious than Dunkin'. Some suggestions:

    • Krispy Kreme

    • (图2)

      Entenmann's Coffee Cake

    • Savory bacon cheddar scones

    • Literally anything else

The case is currently being decided. In the meantime, here's Twitter's majority opinion on the issue:

Chef José Andrés, the man who single-handedly served 3 million meals to Puerto Rico post Hurricane Maria, had the best response of them all.

    Case closed.

Welp, this is a close call.

A tourist was bitten on the leg by a crocodile on at Cape Tribulation in Queensland, Australia on Monday night, while standing on a creek bank close to the waters edge.

SEE ALSO: Maybe don't get a photo with your friends inside a crocodile trap

A Queensland Department of Environment and Heritage Protection (EHP) spokesperson said in a statement the crocodile was estimated to be 2 to 2.5 metres (78 to 98 inches) long.

A video posted on the Facebook page of Ally Bullifent shows the crocodile attack, which comes out of nowhere. It'll be sure to give you a shock.

    (图2)

The EHP said it would carry out a site assessment of the area on Tuesday, and will possibly target the crocodile "for removal" as it has displayed dangerous behaviour in a designated area. This means it'll be moved to a crocodile farm or a zoo, according to the Cairns Post(opens in a new tab).

For authorities, it also serves as a reminder about staying safe in areas where crocodiles might be around. Earlier this year, an 18-year-old boy was attacked by a crocodile while reportedly trying to impress a girl.

So it's understandable why a town crier -- with his elaborate, red and gold robed dress and tricorn hat -- attracted people's attention on social media when he was depicted in an ABC News video as he announces the news of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's engagement outside of Buckingham Palace:

"Oyez, oyez, oyz!" He yells in the video. "Buckingham Palace is proud to announce the engagement of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. God save the Queen!"

It can't get any more British than this.

Business Insider posted a similar video, calling him "the Royal Town Crier":

However, it turns out the eccentric guy is not officially appointed by the Queen, nor is he a real town crier. His real name is Tony Appleton, from Romford, east London, and he's been making royal announcements for years, bell and scroll on hand.

"I'm a royalist. I love the royal family," he told (opens in a new tab)AP(opens in a new tab), while acknowledging he had no official royal role. "I came unannounced."

  • TikTok is making Euphoria fanfiction now

TikTok is making Euphoria fanfiction now

TikTok might as well be Euphoria High with the way users are eating up the spicy second season of HBO's teen drama. It’s like the way Twitter reacts to Succession, but with better edits and more glitter. Between swapping fan theories and stanning normal girl Lexi and drug dealer Fez's onscreen chemistry, Euphoria fans have been busy taking up space on TikTok this week.

    (图1)

Other notable trends include "It's just hay fever" and letting a filter determine who your celeb parents are.

The girls are talking about Euphoria again.

Euphoria has been inescapable on TikTok lately, inspiring a whole host of TikTok trends.

Creators have been using the song "Formula" from the Euphoria soundtrack to speculate everything — from what colleges they think the characters would attend(Opens in a new tab) to what skincare they would use(Opens in a new tab) to what their Pinterest boards would look like(Opens in a new tab)

The Euphoria obsession doesn't end there. TikTok users have also been loving the "Which Euphoria character are you" filter. It's been used over 25,000 times. While nothing beats the look of disappointment on someone's face when it lands on series villain Nate, it's since evolved into a way for people to write their own Euphoria fanfics. TikTokkers are now using it to insert themselves into the narrative, posing various questions(Opens in a new tab) like "who am I dating?" and "who is my best friend?" and letting the algorithm decide their fates. And some of these proposed plots are more interesting than the actual show!

SEE ALSO: TikTok enrolls in 'Euphoria' High

The best Euphoria-inspired trend turns beloved character Fez into a meme. In the Season 2 premiere, the normally soft-spoken drug dealer confronts Rue after a particularly intense encounter with a new dealer, saying, "Why you acting like that shit was fun Rue? For real. You pissing me off, acting dumb as fuck right now. God damn, all this smiling and laughing and shit." TikTok users are adding that audio to describe annoying situations.

The clip was first posted by @paidsosa(Opens in a new tab) with the caption "pov: me anytime my man yells at me." Now, nearly 18,000 videos have been uploaded using the sound. Some highlights include @hudaislost's video(Opens in a new tab) captioned, "guys after you make them go watch a romantic movie with you," which garnered over 4 million views and 1.5 million likes, and @ashleybonneville34's video(Opens in a new tab) that reads, "when your drunk friend thinks it's a good idea to run away from you when you're supposed to be taking care of them."

Sad, but true. Credit: TikTok / hudaislost

Whereas some TV fans congregate on Tumblr or Twitter, TikTok is seemingly the go-to place to discuss Euphoria.

    It’s just hay fever

My favorite trend of the week finds TikTokkers lying about crying. This trend utilizes the scary "Crying Eyes" filter, while also using an audio in which one British child asks another British child, "What's the matter?" To which the other British child responds: "Just hay fever." The filter has been used nearly 80,000 times and audio nearly 60,000 times.

The premise of these videos is simple: The creator pretends that their crying eyes are caused by hay fever — aka allergies — instead of the situation described via the text on the screen. Combined, the tiny British voices and unfortunate situations make a hilarious trend. Take @ambulancelife's video(Opens in a new tab) for example: It reads, "when you tell your mom about a girl and get ghosted the next day." Yikes!

It's just hay fever. Credit: TikTok / ambulancelife

As always, TikTok loves to use humor to share cursed experiences.

    Please adopt me

TikTok filters are winning this week! The "PLEASE ADOPT ME" filter cycles through celebrity names to reveal your celebrity parents. The filter was created a week ago by @allangregorio(Opens in a new tab), a Brazilian digital artist, and has since been used over 215,000 times.

The filter is a breeding ground for hilarious results and reactions. User @tim.stvnsn(Opens in a new tab) got Jimmy Fallon as both their parents and then proceeded to photoshop some silly family portraits. Their video got over 2 million views and over 483,000 likes.

The idea of your celebrity parents isn't a new one. Fans love to claim their favorite artists as their mom or dad, and fans of both Taylor Swift and Harry Styles (including yours truly) refer to themselves as children of divorce since the two pop stars split in 2013. I got Kanye West and Matt Damon, which is literally so cursed! Please don't adopt me.

    West Elm Caleb

It wouldn't be this week on TikTok without a mention of "West Elm Caleb," a New York City furniture designer who has come to represent a certain type of man on dating apps: a serial dater who ghosts, sees multiple women at the same time, and sends nonconsensual nudes. Many women have had experiences with men like Caleb, and they banded together on TikTok to share their grievances.

However, the situation quickly spiraled out of hand when the FYP mob mentality took hold. West Elm Caleb was doxxed, and the West Elm Instagram was flooded with comments demanding he be fired. Here's your daily reminder that holding someone accountable is not the same as ruining their life.

Theres a chance your football tweet was turned into Super Bowl confetti

Not everyone could physically make it to Super Bowl LIV to see the Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Fransisco 49ers, but at the end of the night, some particularly vocal sports fans were on the field in spirit.

    (图1)

After the Big Game ended, confetti covered the field at Miami's Hard Rock Stadium, and among the yellow and red bits of paper were pieces of white confetti with real tweets printed on them.

Turns out, Twitter teamed up(Opens in a new tab) with the NFL to make it rain sports tweets at the end of the night. And if you tweeted before the game using the hashtag #NFLTwitter(Opens in a new tab), your tweet may have been part of the Super Bowl celebration.

SEE ALSO: Yes, that was Jennifer Lopez's daughter singing at the Super Bowl halftime show

As the field cleared off, people were able to get a better look at the tweet-fetti and snap some photos. The Twitter Sports(Opens in a new tab) account spent the night tweeting confetti shots at users(Opens in a new tab) so that people were able to locate their own tweets. Since the confetti included users' handles, several confetti finders also decided to reach out to the people who composed the tweets. How fun!

One of the tweets was even from quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes II. And did we mention he tweeted it in 2013? Talk about iconic.

Tweeting being shot into the world as confetti sounds like a very bad concept. But honestly? This was good.

Rise of the terpenes: The next wave of weed innovation focuses on a little-known compound

    (图1)

This post is part of our High-tech High series, which explores weed innovations, and our cultural relationship with cannabis, as legalization in several U.S. states, Canada, and Uruguay moves the market further out of the shadows.

Chicken and waffles. Moscow Mule. Gingerbread cookies. Plum.

Joe Edwards says he's made cannabis flower taste like all of the above and then some, using a high-tech curing unit produced by Colorado startup Yofumo.

The plum was made specially for his grandma who uses cannabis for her arthritis pain but hates the taste.

"My grandmother has no interest in Skunk No. 1," Edwards, vice president of client applications and deployment at Yofumo, jokes, referring to a popular cannabis strain that smells, well, skunky.

SEE ALSO: How to find the best temperature for your high-tech weed vape

Yofumo is part of a growing contingent of companies using science and tech to experiment with cannabis terpenes. Terpenes are aromatic organic compounds found naturally in marijuana, and they impact weed’s flavor and smell. The type and amount can also have varying biological effects when paired with THC and CBD, according to marijuana researchers.

"My grandmother has no interest in Skunk No. 1."

As terpene experimentation advances, more producers are adding the amount and type of terpenes in their offerings to product descriptions. The compound, lesser-known among the general public, is something consumers are becoming more aware of as they seek out a specific kind of high -- or flavor.

"We're seeing a lot of our patients, or our clients, are demanding to be able to see terpene expression data for the flower that they purchase," says Philippe Henry, director of R&D genetics and analytics at Flowr, which operates cultivation facilities in Canada.

"It’s part of educating people that they can make better choices," adds Henry, who has a Ph.D. in population genetics and has analyzed 5,000 cannabis plants to study terpenes and genetic markers.

    (图2)

Sometimes marketing gets in the way of information in the cannabis field. Blue Dream is a popular strain, but some producers may call their plant Blue Dream even if it isn't the same as the original product, Henry says. Knowing more about the flower's chemical expression, and how you react to that mix, helps you as a consumer.

While there are hundreds of terpenes, a few show up more frequently. Generally linalool, also found in lavender, calms you, while limonene, with its citrusy aroma, can give you energy. Keep in mind, compounds may impact people differently. For example, myrcene generally relaxes, but it could do so to a different degree depending on the individual. When it comes to terpenes, and cannabis in general, it's often about finding what works for you.

"I like to refer to it as the Jurassic Park principle."

"It's synergism," says Mark Lewis, founder and president of NaPro Research in California. He compares a single terpene or a single cannabinoid, be that THC or CBD, to a note — but when everything works together, it's a chord.

What Lewis compares to a musical chord, others have called the "entourage effect." Researchers have analyzed how terpenes interact with other compounds(opens in a new tab), but there's room for further investigation. Weed is complicated, and there's more to discover(opens in a new tab) with expanding legalization.

While terpene levels in cannabis flower tend to be below 2 percent and cannabinoids hover around 20 percent, NaPro tweaks that through breeding plants with desired attributes together over several years. They've amped the terpene level up to 7 percent and THC down to 9 percent in one plant for a client entering a competition(opens in a new tab) that awards top quality cannabis. Changing a plant's composition can take years of breeding. Think about how watermelon today looks and tastes different(opens in a new tab) than it did thousands of years ago, due to human intervention.

Once you get below 1.5 percent, the THC takes over, Lewis, who has a Ph.D. in biochemistry, says. But if a single terpene is higher than 2 percent, the flavor and impact "will hit you like a ton of bricks." One NaPro offering that has 4.5 percent myrcene will cause one's eyes to feel heavy for 15 minutes or so and then provide balanced, euphoric pain relief, Lewis claims.

NaPro Research has also built a search tool(opens in a new tab) for clients to review the chemical expression of marijuana products to discern quality and value.

Flowr and NaPro mess around with a plant's terpene profile through breeding, but Yofumo uses a different technique.

Its curing unit is currently only available commercially (the company is working on a consumer model). It releases terpenes from other plants stored in rods into a mahogany chamber, and through atmospheric transfer, the terpenes bind to the plant at a molecular level.

There's a trend in the marijuana space of upping THC content to get super high, but Edwards says cultivators should look beyond THC.

"Instead of just maximizing THC potential, how can we also look at post-harvest curation practices and maximize terpene potential as well?" he questions.

OK, but how did he do that for his flower with hints of chicken and waffles?

Yofumo plans to release smaller units for consumers next year. As of know they focus on commercial clients. Credit: Yofumo

He starts with scrutinizing what makes up the flavor of chicken and waffles — the herbs you use, the buttery crunch of the bready exterior, the syrupy sweetness — and then replicates that as best as he can through chemical means.

"Once you understand the creation and how this works, it really does open itself up to you," Edwards says. "I like to refer to it as the Jurassic Park principle."

Edwards has had his share of duds in the past, but those failures have helped fine-tune the curing process.

"I've personally consumed an amount of cannabis that is extraordinarily unpleasant," Edwards says. "I've had results that are similar to orange dish detergent just as often as I've had them be similar to orange fruit."

Yofumo customers work with flower as well as oil, but it's the expanding vape and oil market that has added an extra boost to terpene's rise. (The strength of terpene's impact in flower versus oil can differ because of a variety of factors, including the types of terpenes used, their source — cannabis or another botanical, synthetic or natural — and the ratio of cannabinoids to terpenes.)

Yofumo sells terpene formulas to clients to use in their curing units. Credit: Yofumo

LucidMood adds terpenes from other botanicals to enhance cannabis oil for its vapes.

The Colorado company removes the jargon from the equation, naming vape pens based on the desired effect, including Energy, Calm, and Relief. Each contains roughly 40 percent THC, 40 percent CBD, and 20 percent terpenes. LucidMood is focused on new users, not the seasoned dabber. "It's for the person who doesn't have a Ph.D. in cannabis," Tristan Watkins, LucidMood's chief science officer, quips.

"The more that we learn about these, the more we can control."

Calm includes geraniol, a terpene that smells like roses. LucidMood names its pens based on focus group studies in which the first group gets pens with terpenes and a second does not. By having a control group, LucidMood can show that terpenes were behind certain biological effects felt by the first group.

    (图3)

"The more that we learn about these, the more we can control," Watkins, who has a Ph.D. in neurology, says.

There is a divide among terpene researchers, though. Purists believe terpenes should come from the cannabis plant, not an additive. There are also those who don't want their marijuana's flavor messed with at all.

"Consumers should be asking for a product that’s 100-percent cannabis," Flowr's Henry says. "The ones that are really 100-percent cannabis are going to catch a premium sliver of the market."

LucidMood's "lifestyle" collection of pens include Chill and Energy. Credit: LucidMood

As marijuana legalization spreads in the U.S., each state has its own regulations, from who can buy to requiring mold checks. At least two U.S. states, Nevada and New Mexico, mandate terpene testing.

Now, what about weed you eat? If terpenes bring flavor and aroma, are they being used in edibles? Not so much. Edibles tend to use distillates, a form of THC that is supposed to be void of taste, or cannabutter, which is butter infused with cannabis that provides a strong, euphoric high.

Periodic Edibles uses terpenes in their caramels, but for the effect, not the taste.

"We’re actually limited on how high we can go with the dosage because of the flavor that they add," says the Oregon company's founder, Wayne Schwind. If Schwind adds limonene to give a burst of energy, he doesn't want the lemon flavor to overwhelm the caramel.

Periodic Edibles current packaging that lists terpenes. Credit: Periodic Edibles
Periodic Edibles caramels will get a packaging makeover in 2019, but the terpene content will still be listed. Credit: Periodic Edibles

Periodic Edibles started listing terpene profiles on their packaging a few months ago. Schwind says budtenders, the people who sell weed at dispensaries, love it, but buyers are sometimes confused. Many don't know what terpenes are, but that may change over time.

Multiple brewing companies have also been adding cannabis-derived terpenes to their beer. Devour Brewing Co. in Florida uses cannabis terpenes to add lemon, pine, and earthy flavors to its Florida Thunder IPA, and Lagunitas, a California brand owned by Heineken, adds them to its SuperCritical Ale. Prank, a Los Angeles bar, mixes terpenes in cocktails(opens in a new tab).

The terpene innovators may disagree on what's best, but they concur that discerning customers will be key. Those seeking high-quality products, the craft beer drinkers of weed, if you will, are the target market for terpene experimentation.

"It’s not a big thing now, but I think that return to quality is going to explode," says Yofumo founder Alfonso Campalans. "It’s really the only way the small and middle producer is going to compete."

  • Badass Milo Ventimiglia doesnt follow the rules of Instagram

Badass Milo Ventimiglia doesnt follow the rules of Instagram

    (图1)

Milo Anthony Ventimiglia is back on Instagram and you'd better believe he's playing by his own rules.

Die-hard fans may recall the This Is Us star quit Instagram in January 2013 after feeling(opens in a new tab) like people were no longer paying attention to his photos. (We get it, Mi.) He shared a memorable final post(opens in a new tab) captioned "Finito," and proceeded to go dark for years, but on Jan. 1, 2018, Milo kicked off the new year by vowing to gram again(opens in a new tab).

Naturally, I, a Ventimiglia stan, turned on post notifications to ensure I wouldn't miss any of this man's future content, but things got weird, fast.

SEE ALSO: Milo Ventimiglia talks about Crock-Pot backlash and honestly, it's perfect

The majority of Instagram users live by an unspoken rule that one must not post in excess. A single post a day? Acceptable if your life is super interesting. Two a day? Yikes, but okay once in a while. Three or more? Essentially unheard of, unless you're Beyoncé.

If you're in the mood to share dozens of photos, you make a Facebook album — everyone knows that. Instagram is a selective platform for your best photographs, so it makes sense that it should be used sparingly.

But does Milo give a shit?

Via Giphy(opens in a new tab)

    Milo's Instagram takeover

On Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, Milo made good on his promise to gram by posting a photograph of his shoes in Los Angeles.

"Nice," I thought to myself, picturing Milo on a California sidewalk at that very moment, motorcycle helmet in-hand. But before I could hit the like button, the actor shared another snapshot of himself in New York(opens in a new tab). Wait, what?

    (图2)

    View this post on Instagram
    (opens in a new tab)

Within seconds my phone was blowing up with Milo notifications as he went on to Instagram a photo(opens in a new tab) of the American flag, one of his motorcycle(opens in a new tab) feat. Apple Jacks, and some We The People art(opens in a new tab). Before I knew it Milo had shared 15 photos to the platform over the course of six minutes. The notifications would steadily arrive every 25 seconds or so, and I was in awe of what was happening.

More shots from New York, a flurry of photos from D.C., then Arizona, and back to California — Milo's shoes and motorcycle were making their way around the country right before my eyes.

But the real badass move? Not all of these photos were PROFESH. The actor was sharing photos of eaten food(opens in a new tab), part of a table(opens in a new tab), and even a "mistake," which was quite literally just a blurry picture of nothingness(opens in a new tab).

Evelyn. LA(opens in a new tab)

A post shared by Milo Anthony Ventimiglia(opens in a new tab) (@miloanthonyventimiglia) on

I had so many questions. Was Milo about to share every photo he'd taken during his Instagram hiatus? Did he have these photos and captions pre-written? Was anyone else in the world laughing uncontrollably while getting notified of his every move? Is this how teenage Jess Mariano would Instagram if he made an account to impress Rory?

After 18 minutes and 38 Instagrams later the madness stopped. Yes, you heard me... THIRTY EIGHT. Forget a single day, he shared 38 photos in less than 20 minutes. Who DOES that? I was exhausted from the emotional roller coaster Milo had taken me on, but assumed it was a one-time deal to mark his return back to the platform.

    It wasn't.

    A league of his own

On Jan. 17, the Ventimiglia take-over struck again(opens in a new tab) with a less overwhelming blast of 11 posts. Then, on Feb. 10, he amped things up(opens in a new tab) to 17 posts. Now I was intrigued.

Dying to know if this was normal Milo behavior or some elaborate, artistic cry for help, I set out on an investigation starting with the actor’s very first Instagram post — a filtered photo of a nicely made bed from Dec. 12, 2010.

    View this post on Instagram
    (opens in a new tab)

On his first day as an Instagram user Milo posted twice. Ambitious. On his second day, twice. And I noticed nearly every day that followed his daily post count exceeded one. On Oct. 16, 2011 the man posted 13 photos and someone called him out for his excess sharing.

    Credit: screengrab/instagram

Once a badass, always a badass

This weird and completely unnecessary dive into Milo's Instagram history made one thing abundantly clear: Milo Ventimiglia does not care about your Instagram rules now, and he has never cared about your Instagram rules. It just wasn't apparent to me until I turned on notifications.

Would I love him to hit pause on the later-grams and share real-time Instagrams from his life once in a while? Sure. Is it mildly terrifying to see someone break the social media mold in such an ~extra~ way? Hell yeah. But there's no denying his bold Instagram strategy is far more exciting than playing it safe.

Via Giphy(opens in a new tab)

With that said, I feel like VERY FEW people can pull this off, so for the love of Milo let's not all bombard Instagram with 32 posts a day. If there's anything to learn from this it's that we should all care less about what other people think of us.

Milo's a rebel who refuses to live life by some unofficial rule that stifles his creativity, and for that I commend him. He wears his leather jackets well, he drives a motorcycle, and he grams when he wants to gram.

  • Bermuda legalised marriage equality a year ago, but now its taking it back

Bermuda legalised marriage equality a year ago, but now its taking it back

    (图1)

Last year, Bermuda made marriage equality legal. Now, the British overseas territory now stands as the first jurisdiction in the world to go backward on the decision.

Signed into law by Bermuda's governor John Rankin on Thursday(opens in a new tab), the legislation strips the right for LGBTQ couples to get married -- instead allowing them to undertake civil partnerships only.

SEE ALSO: These LGBTQ Olympians are here to break records (and tiny queer hearts)

LGBTQ couples who married overseas or under Bermuda law will still have their marriages recognised. This new legislation follows a landmark decision by Bermuda's Supreme Court last May that ruled in favour(opens in a new tab) of a gay couple who wanted to get married.

Of 63,000 residents in Bermuda, eight couples were able to get married in the period it was legal, according to the Royal Gazette(opens in a new tab).

Bermuda's government pointed to the majority vote against same-sex marriage in a 2016 referendum(opens in a new tab), although not enough people turned up to vote to make the referendum valid.

"The Act is intended to strike a fair balance between two currently irreconcilable groups in Bermuda, by restating that marriage must be between a male and a female while at the same time recognising and protecting the rights of same-sex couples," a statement reads.

    A 'shameful' decision

Bermuda's decision could've been blocked by the UK government, but it opted not to. That's despite Prime Minister Theresa May being "seriously disappointed" by the decision, according to the BBC.(opens in a new tab)

Foreign Office minister Harriett Baldwin added, "It would not be appropriate to use this power to block legislation," and that it would only be done "in exceptional circumstances."

The reversal has also faced criticism from human rights and LGBTQ groups, with Human Rights Commission Global director Ty Cobb labelling it a "deplorable action."(opens in a new tab)

    (图2)

"The fight for marriage equality in Bermuda will continue until the day when every Bermudian is afforded the right to marry the person they love," Cobb added.

GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis said Bermuda's reversal was "shameful,"(opens in a new tab) noting it comes during a rise of anti-LGBTQ activism.

"LGBTQ couples and their children in Bermuda should know that the global community of LGBTQ people and allies will stand with them in rectifying this unjust and hurtful news. Love can never be rolled back," she added.

Reversing these laws spells trouble for Bermuda-registered cruise ships, spelling the end of on-board marriages that were offered by companies like P&O and Cunard.

"We are very unhappy about this decision and we do not underestimate the disappointment this will cause those guests who have planned their weddings," Cunard wrote in a statement.(opens in a new tab)

Currently LGBTQ couples can get married in 26 countries, with Australia and Malta making the practice legal in the last year. Another reminder that you can't take anything for granted.

SEX Club spam just took over Strava

    (图1)

For millions of people, the fitness-tracking app Strava is a handy tool for logging runs and sharing exercise data with friends. Strava may also be, it turns out, a great way to join a sex club.

On Wednesday, an untold number of Strava users received unsolicited invitations from someone by the name of Jessy Kiss to a group called "SEX Club."

SEE ALSO: Your fitness tracker knows too much about you

"You're Invited," reads the message. "Jessy Kiss invited you to join SEX Club. Accept this invitation and you'll get access to all the club's discussions, events, group activities, photos and stories — and lots of cool stuff you can't get anywhere else."

The message was blasted out to Strava users early Wednesday morning and went far and wide, even hitting Apple Watches via a push notification.

So just what, exactly, is the Strava SEX Club? We reached out to Strava about this peculiar notification and will update this story when we hear back.

    (图2)

However, one person who was on the receiving end(opens in a new tab) of this apparent spam — Alex Hern(opens in a new tab), a technology reporter at The Guardian — explained over Twitter DM that he attempted to investigate the prompt only to discover it went nowhere.

"Sadly it seems to have been deleted by [Strava] so I can’t tell you any more than what is in that picture!"

This would suggest that the message didn't originate from a legit exercise group, and that the spam bots so familiar to Twitter users have made their way over to our exercise apps. It was only a matter of time, I guess.

Chance the Rapper has some thoughts about Bright, Will Smiths new Netflix film

    (图1)

Bright, starring Will Smith, hasn't been received well by critics, including Chance the Rapper.

The movie, which is streaming on Netflix and currently has a 28 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes(opens in a new tab), is "Training Day meets Lord of the Rings," as Smith described it. It was directed by David Ayer -- the same dude who helmed Suicide Squad.

One critique that keeps popping up is how it deals with issues like racism, and on Tuesday, Chance had something to say about it.

"I found the way they tried to illustrate America's racism through the mythical creatures to be a little shallow," the rapper tweeted, before diving a bit deeper into the film.

SEE ALSO: Poor Will Smith! Critics tore apart Netflix's first hopeful blockbuster, 'Bright'

"I always feel a lil cheated when I see allegorical racism in movies cause that racism usually stems from human emotion or tolerance but not by law or systems the way it is in real life," Chance wrote on Twitter.

Folks began stepping in with their own thoughts about the movie. One person addressed(opens in a new tab) the "indirect relationship of orcs to black people."

    (图2)

Another fan asked if making connections to the very real racism of the world was a stretch of the imagination, or if it was just an attempt at an "interesting story." During the press tour for the film, Smith has discussed about how the movie is about race, but Chance also shared his thoughts.

"I tried to look at it that way but a few minutes into the movie they make Will's character say 'Fairy Lives don’t Matter,'" Chance tweeted, which obviously is a reference to Black Lives Matter, the very real movement for equal rights.

Have your own thoughts? Send them Chance's way.
