Since launching in 2015, Project Entrepreneur(opens in a new tab) — a media partner of Mashable — has trained more than 1,200 aspiring entrepreneurs representing 131 U.S. cities. Its annual venture competition has yielded an alumnae community of nearly 400 women entrepreneurs, with the 2016 finalists reporting $10+ million raised in seed and pre-seed funding.

Now entering its third year, Project Entrepreneur (PE) — an initiative from the Rent the Runway Foundation and UBS Elevating Entrepreneurs(opens in a new tab) — is expanding the number of winning companies in the accelerator from three to five.

“We are so excited to continue working with UBS in providing women with the tools they need to create high-growth companies, and see their visions through,” said Jennifer Hyman, CEO and Co-Founder of Rent the Runway. “Past participants in our accelerator continue to inspire us with their incredible progress, including closing rounds of funding. We are eager to provide the next class of talented female founders with the tools and support they need to scale, and to see the disruption their companies bring to various different industries.”

PE's annual venture competition is open to female founders who are in the prototype or beta stages, have their first paying customers, or are generating revenue. The top 200 applicants will be invited to attend the PE Intensive in New York City on April 13-14, 2018, a free two-day event comprised of in-depth workshops, expert speakers and a pitch competition. The five winning founders will each receive a $10,000 grant, a spot in the five-week accelerator program at Rent the Runway’s New York office and mentorship and engagement with UBS executives, entrepreneurs, and investors. Founders interested can apply online(opens in a new tab); but don’t wait, as the deadline is December 1st!

Last year’s winning companies included: New York-based LOLI Beauty(opens in a new tab), the first BIY (Blend It Yourself) clean and green beauty brand; Scottsdale-based The Touchpoint Solution(opens in a new tab), a neuroscience wearable that alleviates stress by altering the body’s stress response in as little as 30 seconds; and San Francisco-based Lace & Liberty(opens in a new tab), merging direct-to-consumer convenience with luxury bespoke bridalwear. Two additional New York-based companies were hosted by The Knot/XO Group Co-Founder Carley Roney and designer Rebecca Minkoff: Repeat Roses(opens in a new tab), a sustainable floral waste removal business that gives back to people and planet, and Reboundwear(opens in a new tab), athleisure wear with a purpose, respectively.

“The caliber of companies we're seeing through Project Entrepreneur further validates what we've always believed — that there is an incredible population of talented female founders in cities and towns across the country,” said Lori Feinsilver, UBS Head of Community Affairs & Corporate Responsibility, Americas. “Being able to reach these women and provide them with access to resources and support that will help fuel their growth gives us confidence that we can indeed level the playing field.”

Perhaps the biggest bummer about Twitter's new 280-character limit is that it allows the current president to compose tweets like this one:

On Monday morning, President Donald Trump hit Twitter to suggest a "FAKE NEWS TROPHY" for whichever news network he deems produces "the most dishonest, corrupt" coverage of his presidency. As usual, Fox was excluded from Trump's media rage.

In the same tweet, Trump referred to himself as the American people's favorite president with a parenthetical "(me)." According the most recent Gallup(opens in a new tab) poll, the self-described "favorite" president's approval rating currently sits at 37 percent.

Naturally the internet jumped all over Trump's first tweet of the day. Some even have a solid suggestion for Trump's proposed "FAKE NEWS TROPHY":

  • Two people trying to run the same government agency makes for a really awkward first day

Two people trying to run the same government agency makes for a really awkward first day

    (图1)

Revolutionaries, take note -- if you're planning a government takeover, please use high quality breakfast pastries.

That's a lesson that White House Budget Director Mick Mulvaney(opens in a new tab) apparently hadn't learned when he stepped into the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau today. He was there to take on an additional job as the agency's director.

The only problem? The agency's acting director, Leandra English, refused to cede it to him, in the workplace drama of the decade.

As a Trump appointee, Mulvaney wasn't exactly welcomed at at the job, so he brought crappy Dunkin' Donuts as a way to "ease" himself into an agency he's expected to destroy.

SEE ALSO: Sorry, Cards Against Humanity can't stop Trump's wall

On Friday, Director Richard Cordray(opens in a new tab) stepped down, leaving English to serve as acting director. Last night, English filed a lawsuit claiming that she is the "rightful acting director" of the agency. English has asked the court to impose a temporary restraining order to prevent Trump from appointing anyone, arguing that she is entitled to her position under the Dodd Frank Wall Street Reform Law(opens in a new tab).

None of that stopped Mulvaney. On Monday, the Budget Director stepped into the CFPB, ready to take on his new job.

This is how English responded in an email sent to 1,600 staff.

"I hope that everyone had a great Thanksgiving. With Thanksgiving in mind, I wanted to take a moment to share my gratitude to all of you for your service,” English said(opens in a new tab), signing the note with her title, "Acting Director."

And that, my friends, is what we call a death drop.

Via Giphy(opens in a new tab)

    Here's how Mulvaney responded:

“Please disregard any instructions you receive from Ms. English in her presumed capacity as acting director.” Mulvaney said(opens in a new tab). “I apologize for this being the very first thing you hear from me. However, under the circumstances I suppose it is necessary. If you’re at 1700 G Street today, please stop by the fourth floor to say hello and grab a doughnut.”

If Mulvaney, a budget hawk, thinks he can sway members of an agency whose jobs he's poised to eliminate with Dunkin' Donuts, he's out of his mind. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau(opens in a new tab) was explicitly designed to protect consumers from banks and credit card companies. Mulvaney once famously called the agency "sad" and "sick." He is not, as members of the agency likely know, their friend.

And dude, if you're going to try and win your staff over with breakfast pastries, at least go for something slightly more delicious than Dunkin'. Some suggestions:

    • Krispy Kreme

    • (图2)

      Entenmann's Coffee Cake

    • Savory bacon cheddar scones

    • Literally anything else

The case is currently being decided. In the meantime, here's Twitter's majority opinion on the issue:

Chef José Andrés, the man who single-handedly served 3 million meals to Puerto Rico post Hurricane Maria, had the best response of them all.

    Case closed.

A tourist was bitten on the leg by a crocodile on at Cape Tribulation in Queensland, Australia on Monday night, while standing on a creek bank close to the waters edge.

A Queensland Department of Environment and Heritage Protection (EHP) spokesperson said in a statement the crocodile was estimated to be 2 to 2.5 metres (78 to 98 inches) long.

A video posted on the Facebook page of Ally Bullifent shows the crocodile attack, which comes out of nowhere. It'll be sure to give you a shock.

    (图2)

The EHP said it would carry out a site assessment of the area on Tuesday, and will possibly target the crocodile "for removal" as it has displayed dangerous behaviour in a designated area. This means it'll be moved to a crocodile farm or a zoo, according to the Cairns Post(opens in a new tab).

For authorities, it also serves as a reminder about staying safe in areas where crocodiles might be around. Earlier this year, an 18-year-old boy was attacked by a crocodile while reportedly trying to impress a girl.

So it's understandable why a town crier -- with his elaborate, red and gold robed dress and tricorn hat -- attracted people's attention on social media when he was depicted in an ABC News video as he announces the news of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's engagement outside of Buckingham Palace:

"Oyez, oyez, oyz!" He yells in the video. "Buckingham Palace is proud to announce the engagement of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. God save the Queen!"

It can't get any more British than this.

Business Insider posted a similar video, calling him "the Royal Town Crier":

However, it turns out the eccentric guy is not officially appointed by the Queen, nor is he a real town crier. His real name is Tony Appleton, from Romford, east London, and he's been making royal announcements for years, bell and scroll on hand.

    (图2)

In 2013, he fooled prominent American broadcasters(opens in a new tab) including Rachel Maddow and Anderson Cooper when he announced the birth of Prince William and Kate's firstborn, Prince George, outside St. Mary's Hospital.

"I'm a royalist. I love the royal family," he told (opens in a new tab)AP(opens in a new tab), while acknowledging he had no official royal role. "I came unannounced."

Still, many Americans fell for it:

    4. When she delivered MTV's first ever "Best Fight Against the System" award, did a plié, and got a standing ovation.

Monica Lewinsky says she was uninvited from social change event because Bill Clinton was attending

Yeah, it's 2018 and this is still happening.

Monica Lewinsky called out a faux pas on Twitter on Wednesday after she was uninvited from an event.

The former White House intern and anti-bullying activist says she was invited to an event about social change -- considering she's an ambassador for several bullying prevention organizations and a board member on another, she is an ideal guest. But when former President Bill Clinton planned to attend, Lewinsky's invitation was allegedly revoked.

According to the Huffington Post(opens in a new tab), the offender was Town & Country Magazine, which held its Philanthropy Summit on Wednesday.

SEE ALSO: Monica Lewinsky Breaks the Silence on Clinton Affair

The summit's speakers included Bill Clinton and Parkland survivor and gun control activist Emma Gonzalez.

"It's 2018," Lewinsky said on Twitter, "emily post would def not approve."

Author Emily Post wrote "Emily Post's Etiquette," a book that covered everything from which fork to use at dinner to what's appropriate to discuss at the dinner table. She's also famous for saying, “A gentleman does not boast about his junk.”

Emily Post definitely would not have approved. Credit: United States Library of Congress

And then Lewinsky called out the event's organizers, tweeting, "Please don't try to ameliorate the situation by insulting me with an offer of an article in your mag."

On Twitter people shared their support for Lewinsky after she publicized the situation. Gina McGalliard, a journalist, pointed out that it's surprising that Clinton is still invited to events in the #MeToo era.

And others, like Erin Gloria Ryan, a TV writer, and Andrew Shaffer, an author, said they'd choose Lewinsky over Clinton any day.

Clinton was served with articles of impeachment in 1998 for lying about his affair with Lewinsky, then a 22-year-old White House intern. Their relationship was revealed while Clinton was being investigated for a sexual harassment claim. Although Clinton was acquitted and served the rest of his term as president, Lewinsky's reputation was significantly damaged.

Earlier this year, Lewinsky tweeted about how she's marked Jan. 16, the date the affair essentially went public in 1998, as "the day i survived another year" and asked fellow survivors to retweet if they "survived the unimaginable" too.

Lewinsky has been especially outspoken since the Harvey Weinstein scandal broke -- she wrote(opens in a new tab) about it in Vanity Fair. "My trauma expedition has been long, arduous, painful, and expensive," she said. "And it’s not over."

Mashable has reached out to both Monica Lewinsky and Town & Country Magazine for comment.

Matt Damon has more to say about sexual harassment and, oh boy …

    (图1)

Matt Damon needs to stop talking about sexual harassment until he actually gets it.

After a whole week of being lambasted by folks like Alyssa Milano following his unfathomably misinformed ABC News interview, the Hollywood star has more to add. More!

SEE ALSO: Matt Damon attempts to speak about sexual harassment and shows he STILL doesn't get it

In fact, Damon thinks we should be talking more about the men in Hollywood who aren't sexually assaulting people. In an interview with Business Insider(opens in a new tab), promoting his new film, Downsizing, Damon said he thinks men "who don't do this kind of thing" should be given a pat on the back.

“We’re in this watershed moment, and it’s great, but I think one thing that’s not being talked about is there are a whole s—load of guys — the preponderance of men I’ve worked with — who don’t do this kind of thing and whose lives aren’t going to be affected.”

Look, Damon appears to be coming from a good place, but dude, this moment in history is not about men who "don't do this."

Damon goes on to congratulate himself on being one such non-harasser, and refers to an ambiguous "sexual harassment thing" that he would totally sign, guys.

"If I have to sign a sexual-harassment thing, I don’t care, I’ll sign it. I would have signed it before. I don’t do that, and most of the people I know don’t do that.”

    (图2)

It may surprise you, but the reaction to Damon's comments has been less than positive.

Look, we get it Damon, you're trying to be supportive of your workmates who haven't assaulted anyone, that you know of.

But perhaps, given the circumstances surrounding your ol' pal Harvey Weinstein, who is facing sexual assault and harassment accusations from over 100 women, it'd be the perfect moment to lend support to victims, acknowledge Hollywood's systemic sexual harassment problem, and shut the hell up.

  • The House used this janky-looking, 1970s-style machine to impeach Trump

The House used this janky-looking, 1970s-style machine to impeach Trump

When members of the House of Representatives voted to impeach President Trump Wednesday, they did so in retro — yet high-tech — style. Well, sort of.

    (图1)

In August 2018, Congress got brand new electronic voting boxes(Opens in a new tab) installed throughout its chambers. These are machines that allow our representatives to insert their special congressional voter ID cards, and then vote Yea, Nay, or Present with the touch of a button, which electronically records their votes.

Congress first installed electronic voting boxes in 1973. In the mid 1980s, the boxes got a touch of color when designers changed the buttons from all white to green, red, yellow, and blue (green is yea, red is, obviously, nay). Chic!

Various tweaks occurred throughout the years. But 2018 saw a more woke, higher-tech iteration: The button panels got braille and an LCD panel was added to display the member of congress's name when they inserted their ID cards.

Amazingly, the boxes that literally determine the law of the land still look decidedly ... retro. According to FedScoop(Opens in a new tab), the electronic innards got a totally modern revamp. But the outside, with its wood panels and very analog buttons (mmm, want to presss), still look like they belong in your once-and-always-groovy grandmother's parlor. You can see a larger picture of the latest model here(Opens in a new tab).

If the Speaker of the House permits it, members of congress don't have to vote electronically(Opens in a new tab). In that case, they can head down to the well and hand color-coded cards to a clerk who will record votes manually. That also occurs if a member has forgotten their ID card (shame!) or wants to change their electronic vote.

As with the impeachment vote Wednesday, the colored-card system is what's going on when you watch all the milling about in Congress during a vote.

Beyond Congress, the way America votes has become a more recent topic of concern in the wake of Russia's 2016 election interference. A new report from NBC(Opens in a new tab) found that China manufactures many of the parts that comprise American voting machines. • Cardi B probably knows a lot more about President Franklin D. Roosevelt than you do

Cardi B probably knows a lot more about President Franklin D. Roosevelt than you do

"I love government. I'm obsessed with presidents. I'm obsessed to know how the system works."

That's what Billboard chart sensation Cardi B told GQ's Caity Weaver in an extensive profile(opens in a new tab) published Monday morning.

The Bronx-born rapper, who released the highly anticipated album Invasion of Privacy last week, has delivered us bangers and viral clips for the better part of a year. All of that without revealing, until now, that she knows her stuff when it comes to the history of presidents in this country.

SEE ALSO: Cardi B's 'SNL' pregnancy reveal dazzles and delights the internet

In the feature, Cardi starts off by admitting her love of our 32nd president, Franklin D. Roosevelt. Here's what she had to say about him:

"First of all," continues Cardi B, "he helped us get over the Depression, all while he was in a wheelchair. Like, this man was suffering from polio at the time of his presidency, and yet all he was worried about was trying to make America great—make America great again for real. He's the real 'Make America Great Again,' because if it wasn't for him, old people wouldn't even get Social Security."

But not only does she like him for putting his country first, Cardi also goes in on her love of Eleanor Roosevelt, the New Deal and offers up context about why FDR is, in her eyes, the best:

"Yes, from the New Deal. It was a system to get us back from the world Depression—then, on top of that, while he was president there was a fucking war going on. World War II was going on. So all this shit going on in the United States, while recouping the country from an economic tragedy, making sure that America won the war—and his wife? I would say she was almost like Michelle Obama. She was such a good humanitarian, and we both got the same birthday, Oct. 11."

But, as you should know by now, never underestimate Cardi B. Her knowledge isn't only limited to FDR. She can list all the presidents in order of their time in office, and when Weaver threw a random president at her — Buchanan — she was quick to offer up a fun fact:

"He was the 15th president," she says, and her tone is as neutral as if she were reciting types of weather. "Buchanan is the only president that was a bachelor."

Woman finds contact lens thatd been lodged in her eye for 28 YEARS

Is there anything more annoying than losing a contact lens? A woman in the UK thought hers fell out until doctors found it embedded in her eye decades later.

A recent BMJ Case Report(opens in a new tab) detailed the 42-year-old woman's horrific experience. She had visited her eye doctor for painful swelling in her upper eyelid. An MRI revealed a cyst in the eye tissue, which ruptured during the removal surgery. That's when doctors found a WHOLE CONTACT LENS that had been lodged inside the patient's eyelid tissue for 28 years.

I repeat: A WHOLE CONTACT LENS.

SEE ALSO: Woman with 27 contact lenses in her eye probably set some kind of record, right?

Here's some backstory that will probably make you scream: According to Health(opens in a new tab), the report says that the contact was "a rigid gas permeable (RGP)" lens which the woman hadn't worn since she was a teenager. When she was 14-year-old, she was hit in the eye during a game of badminton and thought that the lens fell out.

Except, it hadn't. Until her surgery, the lens had been lodged in her eyelid for for almost three decades. The woman didn't experience any symptoms until that cyst formed.

"The patient never wore RGP lenses following this incident," the case report concludes(opens in a new tab), according to Health. "We can infer that the RGP lens migrated into the patient's left upper eyelid at the time of trauma and had been in situ for the last 28 years."

The only story that one ups this nightmare is the time surgeons in the UK found a staggering 27 contact lenses balled up inside a patient's eye during what was supposed to be a routine cataract surgery.

If you wear contacts, just...check you eyes every now and then. Please.

  • Quordle today: Here are the answers and hints for November 20

Quordle today: Here are the answers and hints for November 20

Sunday Quordles are, all things considered, the most relaxing Quordles of all. For most of us, Sunday is when we're furthest from the workweek, and Sunday comes with a rich tradition of lounging around the house, reading the paper slowly and doing puzzles. An extra hard puzzle can be an added bonus, but it can also add frustration to an otherwise enjoyable day.

    (图1)

If Quordle is a little too challenging today, you've come to the right place for hints. There aren't just hints here, but the whole Quordle solution. Scroll to the bottom of this page, and there it is. But are you sure you need all four answers? Maybe you just need a strategy guide. Either way, scroll down, and you'll get what you need.

    What is Quordle?

Quordle is a five-letter word guessing game similar to Wordle, except each guess applies letters to four words at the same time. You get nine guesses instead of six to correctly guess all four words. It looks like playing four Wordle games at the same time, and that is essentially what it is. But it's not nearly as intimidating as it sounds.

    Is Quordle harder than Wordle?

    Yes, though not diabolically so.

    Where did Quordle come from?

Amid the Wordle boom of late 2021 and early 2022, when everyone was learning to love free, in-browser, once-a-day word guessing games, creator Freddie Meyer says he took inspiration from one of the first big Wordle variations, Dordle — the one where you essentially play two Wordles at once. He took things up a notch, and released Quordle on January 30(Opens in a new tab). Meyer's creation was covered in The Guardian(Opens in a new tab) six days later, and now, according to Meyer, it attracts millions of daily users. Today, Meyer earns modest revenue(Opens in a new tab) from Patreon, where dedicated Quordle fans can donate to keep their favorite puzzle game running.

    How is Quordle pronounced?

“Kwordle.” It should rhyme with “Wordle,” and definitely should not be pronounced exactly like "curdle.”

Is Quordle strategy different from Wordle?

    Yes and no.

Your starting strategy should be the same as with Wordle. In fact, if you have a favorite Wordle opening word, there’s no reason to change that here. We suggest something rich in vowels, featuring common letters like C, R, and N. But you do you.

After your first guess, however, you’ll notice things getting out of control if you play Quordle exactly like Wordle.

What should I do in Quordle that I don’t do in Wordle?

Solving a Wordle puzzle can famously come down to a series of single letter-change variations. If you’ve narrowed it down to “-IGHT,” you could guess “MIGHT” “NIGHT” “LIGHT” and “SIGHT” and one of those will probably be the solution — though this is also a famous way to end up losing in Wordle, particularly if you play on “hard mode.” In Quordle, however, this sort of single-letter winnowing is a deadly trap, and it hints at the important strategic difference between Wordle and Quordle: In Quordle, you can't afford to waste guesses unless you're eliminating as many letters as possible at all times.

Guessing a completely random word that you already know isn't the solution, just to eliminate three or four possible letters you haven’t tried yet, is thought of as a desperate, latch-ditch move in Wordle. In Quordle, however, it's a normal part of the player's strategic toolset.

Is there a way to get the answer faster?

In my experience Quordle can be a slow game, sometimes dragging out longer than it would take to play Wordle four times. But a sort of blunt-force guessing approach can speed things up. The following strategy also works with Wordle if you only want the solution, and don’t care about having the fewest possible guesses:

Try starting with a series of words that puts all the vowels (including Y) on the board, along with some other common letters. We've had good luck with the three words: “NOTES,” “ACRID,” and “LUMPY.” YouTuber DougMansLand(Opens in a new tab) suggests four words: “CANOE,” “SKIRT,” “PLUMB,” and “FUDGY.”

Most of the alphabet is now eliminated, and you’ll only have the ability to make one or two wrong guesses if you use this strategy. But in most cases you’ll have all the information you need to guess the remaining words without any wrong guesses.

If strategy isn't helping, and you're still stumped, here are some hints:

Are there any double or triple letters in today’s Quordle words?

Two words have letters occurring twice.

Are any rare letters being used in today’s Quordle like Q or Z?

    Z.

What do today’s Quordle words start with?

    B, A, S, and S.

What are the answers for today’s Quordle?

Are you sure you want to know?

There’s still time to turn back.

OK, you asked for it. The answers are:

    1. BALER

    2. AMAZE

    3. SPICY

    4. SEGUE

10 trends that have shaped TikTok this year

Do you ever feel like you spend a ton of time on TikTok but that you're still missing so much of what's happening there?

    (图1)

TikTok has been growing in popularity year over year, but for an app that's been around for a while now it's surprising just how many new trends are still popping up on it every day.

SEE ALSO: 50 of the absolute best stocking stuffers — that are actually useful

We sorted through it all so you don't have to. Here are 10 of the biggest trends that have shaped TikTok in 2021.

    1. That one specific song that turned into a bunch of different trends

It isn't something I picked up on immediately, but a slowed-down cover of Beach Bunny’s "Cloud 9" has morphed into multiple different videos across TikTok. I first noticed the tune as it was performed by the user pxrxvi(Opens in a new tab) in the "I hate all men… But when he loves me"(Opens in a new tab) trend, in which someone (usually a woman) shows off all the things their (usually male) partners do for them. That same tune, remarkably, is used in another popular video format on the app but with a twist. An acoustic version of the song(Opens in a new tab) is in the background of the "I hate people who work at the bank" trend(Opens in a new tab), in which people reveal that they are actually(Opens in a new tab), indeed(Opens in a new tab), the thing that they hate(Opens in a new tab).

    2. Coffee reviews

In early 2020, while we were all experiencing the first stretch of quarantine, a whipped coffee drink known as dalgona coffee took TikTok by storm. Since then, the coffee consumption experience on the app has changed and grown into a full-on coffee review powerhouse. There's one user, @(Opens in a new tab)starbucksrecipeswithm(Opens in a new tab), who makes coffees with her 2.1 million followers; another user, @(Opens in a new tab)eggbaloni(Opens in a new tab), reviews Starbucks drinks for his 490,000 followers; and then there is @(Opens in a new tab)tybridgwater(Opens in a new tab), who famously reviews coffee drinks on duets to more than 879,000 followers. As of publication, #coffee has 15.1 billion views, and #coffeereview has 10.3 million views.

    3. The Green brothers

Hank(Opens in a new tab) and John Green(Opens in a new tab)New York Times bestselling authors, YouTubers, educational content creators, and philanthropists — have become more and more of a presence on TikTok. Hank Green, who is becoming known more as a TikTokker now than he is a science educator or writer, posts a whole host of different videos on the app. Sometimes he's talking about pelicans(Opens in a new tab) to explaining science(Opens in a new tab) to bickering with his brother, John(Opens in a new tab). John posts far less frequently, but he also bickers with his brother, Hank(Opens in a new tab), and talks about his books(Opens in a new tab). The convention that the two brothers originally conceived, VidCon, is even being sponsored by TikTok now(Opens in a new tab).

    4. Adult Swim bumps

In one of the most creative and nostalgic trends on TikTok in 2021, Gen Z is bringing back the Adult Swim bumps(Opens in a new tab). Adult Swim, the late-night adult programming on Cartoon Network, used short bumps to let parents know that the network wasn't showing kid-friendly content anymore.

TikTokkers have been recreating the iconic lil clips(Opens in a new tab) by creatively showing off the [as] logo(Opens in a new tab) at the end of short videos(Opens in a new tab). As of publication, #AdultSwim was at more than 3 billion views.

    5. Songs from The Backyardigans

Do you hear a smooth samba(Opens in a new tab) on your For You page? Or have you been listening to the sounds of "Into the thick of it! Into the thick of it! Into the thick of it! Ugh!" as you flip through TikTok videos? Both of those are songs from The Backyardigans(Opens in a new tab), a children's show that has, remarkably, made quite the splash on the video-sharing app this year. Both songs — "(Opens in a new tab)Castaways(Opens in a new tab)" and "Into The Thick Of It(Opens in a new tab)" — have gone fully viral thanks to celebrities like Lizzo(Opens in a new tab). TikTokkers love their nostalgia.

    6. Taylor Swift and the gang

We would be remiss to not point out the celebrities who have joined TikTok, first and foremost Taylor Swift(Opens in a new tab) (who may or may not be engaged to Joe Alwyn(Opens in a new tab).) Her ex-boyfriend Jon Mayer(Opens in a new tab) also joined, along with Alicia Silverstone(Opens in a new tab), Avril Lavigne(Opens in a new tab), Natasha Bedingfield(Opens in a new tab), and, of course, Cher(Opens in a new tab). Contrary to popular belief, Dolly Parton has sadly still not joined the app.

    7. Nobody, nobody, nobody, nobody, nobody, ooh, nobody, nobody, nobody

This year, there were plenty of wholesome trends. This wasn't one of them. To the tune of Mitski’s Nobody, and the lyrics "Nobody, nobody, nobody, nobody, nobody, ooh, nobody, nobody, nobody," TikTokers ran away from the icks and red flags. Think of the obvious ones: like when an adult man asks for your Snapchat(Opens in a new tab) instead of your number or when he starts to like you back(Opens in a new tab).

    8. Have you ever been in love? Do you want me to describe it to you?

This audio had an absolute metal grip over TikTok for a swath of time in 2021, despite it actually coming from Skins, a British drama that premiered in 2007. The trend started off wholesome — with people using the exact verbiage to show clips of their loving, happy relationships(Opens in a new tab). Soon, though, the audio was taken over by the rest TikTok — happily coupled or not — and they created a bit of a twist: This doesn't have to be about relationships at all. It can be about astrology(Opens in a new tab), sharing a bedroom with siblings(Opens in a new tab), or a dog's hair in the wind(Opens in a new tab).

    9. I think this guy, looks just like this thing

Creator Carter Vail made audio that sounds like (Opens in a new tab)the background music to a Wii Sports intro with his voice saying: "I think this guy, looks just like this thing. And I'm not sure why. But do you think the same thing as me?" The first, original video points out the uncanny resemblance between Jeff Besos and that paperclip from Microsoft Word(Opens in a new tab), but the trend traveled to the parallels of Timothee Chamalet and a bicycle seat(Opens in a new tab), Vince Vaugn and a semi-truck(Opens in a new tab), and Machine Gun Kelly and a bag of Bugles(Opens in a new tab).

    10. Couch guy

Whether you think it was a harmless internet trend or a look at the darker side of amateur social media sleuths, couch guy made a huge impact on TikTok in 2021. He entered the scene in a video posted by his girlfriend(Opens in a new tab) in September. She was visiting him in college as a surprise. When she opened the door, he was sitting on the couch near other women, and he didn't leap for glee when he saw her. It went completely viral, with some people saying the vibes were off and others convinced he was fully cheating. In December, months after his TikTok went viral, he penned a piece for Slate(Opens in a new tab) about what it was like to be investigated by the internet — and how that might point to a larger problem with parasocial relationships online.

Nike urges people to stand against racism in striking new ad

Nike is urging people to not only acknowledge the racism that exists in America today, but to take a firm stand against it.

    (图1)

On Friday, the sportswear company dropped a powerful new ad, titled "For once, don't do it." The ad comes days after George Floyd, a black man, died when white Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin pressed his knee against Floyd's neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds.

Since Floyd's death on May 25, people across the country have been protesting racism and police brutality. Now, Nike — a brand that's been no stranger in recent years to speaking up against injustice— is letting everyone know exactly where it stands on the issue of race in America.

As piano music plays, the minute-long ad displays changing white text on a black background. The ad kicks off with a sobering spin on the company's slogan, "Just do it."

"For once, don't do it. Don't pretend there's not a problem in America. Don't turn your back on racism. Don't accept innocent lives being taken from us," the ad reads. "Don't make any more excuses. Don't think this doesn't affect you. Don't sit back and be silent. Don't think you can't be part of the change. Let's all be part of the change."

SEE ALSO: How to demand justice for George Floyd and support Minneapolis protesters

The newest ad was also shared alongside the hashtag, #UntilWeAllWin,(Opens in a new tab) which is Nike's call for equality. The hashtag has appeared in past campaigns, and the phrase "Until We All Win" is associated with Nike's Common Thread Series(Opens in a new tab), a video series created in partnership with Uninterrupted(Opens in a new tab) that works to share stories of athletes of color.

Nike notably stood up to condemn racism and police brutality back in 2018 by making Colin Kaepernick a face of the "Just Do It" Campaign. The former quarterback was ousted from the NFL in 2016 after he began kneeling during the National Anthem in protest of police brutality and racism in the United States. He has since worked with Nike to release several powerful ads, such as the ones below, and fully embodies the quote, "Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything."

Nike also outlined its commitment to equality in detail on its website(Opens in a new tab), for those who are interested in learning more.

It's not often that a brand is able to successfully weigh in on serious issues and make valuable contributions to the narratives surrounding them, but Nike continues to deliver blunt, eye-opening, no-nonsense ads that clearly resonate with people.

Eli Manning gets roasted by Tom Brady a half-hour after joining Twitter

Eli Manning, the former New York Giants quarterback who was famously social media-averse for his entire 16-year career, has joined Twitter.

    (图1)

Manning opened his account on Saturday with a riff on a quote from Hoosiers. So far, his profile is very basic — headshot avatar and blank cover photo — but maybe that'll change as he grows increasingly bored during quarantine.

Unsurprisingly, Manning has already interacted with former rival Tom Brady, who roasted Manning roughly 29 minutes after his first tweet.

"Welcome @EliManning," Brady wrote(Opens in a new tab). "In typical fashion, you never showed up until the 4th quarter anyway."

Manning's new life as a social media maven isn't entirely a shock. In April, Lawrence Tynes (one of Manning's former teammates) tweeted a text conversation with Manning(Opens in a new tab) in which he encouraged the ex-quarterback to join the platform. At that point, Manning was "thinking about it."

Well, we guess he thought about it enough.
